When it comes to family fun and entertainment here in Coweta, nothing compares to the annual County Fair.

The 2022 Kiwanis Coweta County Fair opens its 11-day run tomorrow (Thursday, Sept. 15) with the Midway Preview Day from 5 to 11 p.m. Only carnival rides and food booths will be open on Preview Day, but folks can get an idea of the rides and games available at this year’s Fair.

“Primetime Amusements does a great job of providing a wide variety of rides for all ages,” says Scott Cortner, chairman of the 2022 Kiwanis Coweta County Fair.

Cortner also said what is new to this year’s Fair.

“As for attractions, we will have a petting zoo again after not having one for a couple of years due to COVID,” Cortner says.  “Lew-E’s Comedy Circus is new, as is Rock and Read, Mahayley’s Grave and Latin Dance and Music on both Sundays.  And this year we will have lots of new activities for children on the lawn in front of the main stage.”

Friday (Sept. 16) is Krazy Kickoff Day as Individual Exhibits open from 5-10 p.m. in Exhibit Hall.  Rock & Read is at 5 p.m. on the Walker Horne Stage, the DJ Booth is at 6, Iron P Petting Zoo is on the Midway Showcase and Lew-E’s Comedy Circus appears on the Midway Annex.

On Saturday (Sept. 17), the day’s theme is Superhero Day. Events such as the Commercial Dair Heifer Show takes place at the Livestock Arena at noon, the Photo Booth Contest is at Exhibit Hall at 2 p.m. as is a Cooking Demo, Ask the Master Gardener is from 4-6 p.m. in the Ag Building, the 4-H Horse Show starts at 5 p.m. at the W.C. Adamson Horse Arena and Mayhayley’s Grave will introduce those in attendance to Southern Gothic Swing as the band performs on the Walker Horne Stage at 6 p.m. Lew-E’s Comedy Circus makes an appearance on the Midway Annex.

And to conclude the first weekend of the Fair on Sunday (Sept. 18), the theme is Latin Heritage Day. The 4-H K9 Club Dog Show starts at 2 p.m. in the Ag Building, followed by the Gingerbread House Decorating Contest in Exhibit Hall at 2:30 p.m., a Latin Music & Dance Performance is at 5 p.m. on the Walker Horne Stage Lawn, and a Youth Cake Decorating Contest in Exhibit Hall at 5:30 p.m.

Gate admission is $5 nightly with Ride Armbands $30 (Sunday through Thursday only) and $35 (Fridays and Saturdays). Today is the last day to purchase advance Mega Pass Armbands and save $5. Online purchases can be made until midnight by clicking HERE and in-person purchases can be made until 5 p.m. at Arnall Grocery Company, UGA Extension Coweta County, Keith A. Ross Insurance Agency and Southtowne Motors.

One of the things Cortner did say would help make a perfect Fair is “no rain and moderate temperatures”.  That will be the case through Sunday as the National Weather Service says to expect nothing but sunny and clear skies with highs of 83 degrees on Thursday and Friday, and 85 on Saturday and Sunday. Lows will dip into the 60s.

Fair hours are 5  to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 5 p.m. to midnight on Fridays; noon to midnight on Saturdays; and 2 to 10 p.m. on Sundays. Parking is free.
