From Special Reports
The Newnan Police Department has a fun fall event planned for a good cause with something for all ages. The department’s fifth annual Car, Truck, & 4×4 Show is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 29, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Coweta County Fairgrounds, 275 Pine Road in Newnan. Admission is free.
Sponsors include Newnan Peachtree Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Ram as well as Yahama Motor Manufacturing Corporation, which will be showcasing some brand-new vehicle models at this event.
Registration for car show participants begins at 8 a.m. and costs $20. All participants are included in a drawing for one of two $100 cash prizes as well as other prizes. The first 150 who pre-register receive a gift. Awards for the show include the People’s Choice, Kid’s Choice, and Chief’s Award.
Sponsorships are available on a number of levels, beginning with an Officer sponsor ($500) which gets recognition on the event T-shirt as well as during the program, along with an opportunity to place an item in the swag bag. The other sponsor levels, in ascending order, include Sergeant ($1,000), Lieutenant ($1,500), Captain ($2,500), Major ($5,000), Chief ($7,500), and Presenting Sponsor ($10,000). In all, the various sponsorship levels provide more than a dozen ways to support your own organization while supporting the event.
For more information or to sponsor, contact Sgt. Edward Lee at 770-254-2355 ext. 140 or [email protected]. You can pay online for car or vendor registration at the Newnan Community Resources Inc. website, newnancommunity2.com.
In addition to the car show participants, the public safety vehicles that will be on display expect to provide plenty of fun for young and old.
“There will be some cool cars,” said NPD Sgt. Edward Lee. “We’ll have some police vehicles, including our big SWAT vehicle. Kids can get on a fire truck and inside a police car, with the chance to take plenty of pictures.”
Spectator activities include a 50/50 raffle, games, food, music, and prizes. Attendees are reminded to respect all car show vehicles – no touching.
There will be a Kid Zone with a bike rodeo, trunk or treat, and kids’ Halloween costume contest. Young people will have the chance to win a bike, candy, and other prizes.
“We added the Kid Zone this year because the show is only two days before Halloween,” said Lee. “There will be free helmets for kids in the bike rodeo and probably several bikes for kids to win.”
Proceeds from this event go toward the department’s Christmas with a Cop and Guitars Not Guns programs. Last year’s Shop with a Cop gave an ample supply of holiday cheer to 86 young people, who were treated to a free breakfast two weeks before Christmas and then allowed to shop for themselves with the assistance of a law enforcement officer.
“This is a great chance for people to come out, show off their cars and support local law enforcement,” said Lee. “The car show participants will enjoy sitting and talking to each other, bragging about their cars and learning about other vehicles. There will be plenty of food and with the kids’ activities, it’s just a great time to bring the whole family and enjoy it all.”
