Solar Eclipse Monday, a local viewing set for Lone Oak

From Special Reports
A partial solar eclipse here locally is happening Monday, April 8, and a gathering to view the eclipse is planned in Lone Oak.
A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the sun and the earth. This part of Georgia is not in the path of the total eclipse, but about 80-85 percent of the sun will be covered by the moon in this area. The eclipse will begin at 1:45 p.m. with the maximum eclipse coverage in this area around 3:04 p.m. It will end at 4:20 p.m.
Monday’s weather forecast calls for partly cloudy skies with the temperature near 75 degrees during the solar eclipse. Cloud cover will be at 17 percent during that time, according to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, thus making for a nice view of the eclipse.
The viewing will take place in the Field of Dreams just west of Allen-Lee Memorial United Methodist Church in Lone Oak. There will be some chairs for seating, snacks and water.
Eclipse glasses, which allow people to safely view the changes, will also be available. Everything will be set up at Allen-Lee by 1:30 p.m.
Allen-Lee is located at 4720 Lone Oak Road/Highway 54 between Luthersville and Hogansville.
