Super Bowl LIX: Fast Facts, Interesting Notes and Connecting Coweta

It’s Super Bowl time once again. Super Bowl LIX (59) is set with the Philadelphia Eagles facing the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, February 9.
This year’s big game will take place at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. It kicks off at 6:30 p.m. and will be televised by FOX.
There are no local connections regarding players in this year’s Super Bowl. However, three former stars that played high school football in Coweta County have participated in a Super Bowl.
Drew Hill, a former Newnan High star, caught one pass for 28 yards in Super Bowl XIV on Jan. 20, 1980 for the Los Angeles Rams as a wide receiver in his only appearance.
Keith Brooking, a former East Coweta standout, was a rookie linebacker with the Atlanta Falcons in 1998. The Falcons played the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XXXIII on Jan. 31, 1999. Brooking did not record any tackles in that game.
And another former East Coweta player, punter Chris Hanson, punted 4 times for a 43.8 average with a long of 49 yards in Super Bowl XLII, Feb. 3, 2008, with the New England Patriots.
Below are some Fast Facts and interesting notes about the Super Bowl and this year’s game.
• New Orleans is hosting the Super Bowl for the 11th time, which ties Miami for the most times hosting the game. The last time the game was in New Orleans was in February 2013 when the Baltimore Ravens defeated the San Francisco 49ers, 34-31.
• The Caesars Superdome underwent a $560 million renovation prior to the start of this season.
• Ticket prices for Super Bowl LIX go from the cheapest ($5,550) to the most expensive ($56,770), according to ticket marketplace TickPick. The average ticket price is $10,474.
• Kansas City opened as a 1.5-point favorite over Philadelphia. Also total points for the game opened at 48.5.
• The Chiefs will wear their white (away) uniforms while the Eagles will wear their home greens.
• The winning team of the Super Bowl is awarded the Vince Lombardi Trophy, a sterling silver trophy that stands 22 inches tall and weighs seven pounds. Its value is $10,000. It is named after the famous Green Bay coach who won the first two Super Bowls.
• Players on the Super Bowl winning team will be paid slightly more than last year’s $171,000 each. Losing team players will get approximately $103,000 each.
• Calling the game for FOX will be Kevin Burkhardt and Tom Brady. Erin Andrews and Tom Rinaldi will report from the sidelines.
• Last year was the most-watched Super Bowl of all time as CBS reported an average of 123.4 million viewers tuned in. That was the most watched telecast in America since the 1969 moon landing.
• A 30-second commercial during FOX’s Super Bowl LIX telecast will cost advertisers around $7 million with some reaching $8 million. There’s an average of 80 to 100 commercials during a Super Bowl.
• Kendrick Lamar headlines the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show.
• This will be the ninth Super Bowl rematch and the second time in three years that Kansas City and Philadelphia will square off on Super Sunday. The last time was Super Bowl LVII at Glendale, AZ, as the Chiefs won 38-35.
• Though common opponents are not as big a deal in the NFL as in college football, the Chiefs and Eagles both played the same eight teams. The Chiefs were 8-0 and the Eagles were 6-2.

• The New England Patriots have the most in Super Bowl appearances with 11. The Dallas Cowboys, Pittsburgh Steelers and Denver Broncos are second with eight.
• Two teams – New England and Pittsburgh – share the Super Bowl record with six wins apiece. Dallas and San Francisco are next with five wins each.
• Teams have won back-to-back Super Bowls a total of nine times. Those teams are the Green Bay Packers, Miami Dolphins, Pittsburgh (twice), San Francisco, Dallas, Denver Broncos, New England and Kansas City. The Chiefs have a chance to make Super Bowl history by becoming the first team to win three in-a-row.
• Former quarterback Tom Brady has won the most Super Bowl MVP awards with five, followed by fellow QBs Joe Montana and Patrick Mahomes with three apiece.
• A dozen NFL teams have yet to win a Super Bowl. Those teams are the Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons, Buffalo Bills, Carolina Panthers, Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Chargers, Minnesota Vikings and Tennessee Titans.
• Four of those dozen teams listed just above have yet to make a Super Bowl appearance – Cleveland, Detroit, Houston and Jacksonville.
• New England and Denver have each lost five Super Bowls, which is the most in history. Minnesota and Buffalo are next with four losses apiece.
• The first Super Bowl took place on January 15, 1967 between Green Bay and Kansas City. It was held in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum with the Packers winning 35-10.
