From Special Reports

Here are the 5 W’s with ELEVATE Coweta’s Executive Director Kevin Barbee on Hats and Hooves 2024.

The Who

The Kentucky Derby is just around the corner and once again ELEVATE Coweta Students will host their annual Hats and Hooves Kentucky Derby Fundraiser. ELEVATE Coweta Students mission is to elevate our students to success in school, in our community, and in life. We surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.

The What

Put on your best hat or that one-of-a kind bow tie and watch the Kentucky Derby with both old and new friends, enjoy food and drink, auctions and more, all set against the beautiful backdrop of the McRitchie-Hollis Museum and the University of West Georgia in historic Downtown Newnan! Not only will you watch the Derby live, you will experience the thrill of a live auction, games, prizes and the opportunity to visit with old friends and meet new ones.

The Where

Our event is held on the lawn against the beautiful backdrop of the McRitchie-Hollis Museum and the wonderful front lawn of the University of West Georgia.

The When

On May 4th the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby will take in Louisville, Kentucky. Right here in Newnan the running of the derby will also be held as the premiere fundraiser, Hats and Hooves 2024 benefiting ELVATE Coweta Students takes place starting at 5 p.m. Come and enjoy great food and drink while bidding on great silent auction items. At approximately 7 p.m., the derby will be shown live followed by a fun live auction. Spend the remainder of the evening enjoying the company of friends and dancing to the live music of local band Doze Guys.

The Why

Funds raised from this event will go directly to programs and support of students. This will allow us to continue to help identify students in need of assistance and connect those students—and family members—to community resources that can help remove obstacles to student success. In addition, you will help support our mentoring program, where we connect community members and school resources for the purpose of fostering the development of a caring relationship between a responsible adult and a student in the Coweta county school system. With over 2000 students assisted last year and on track to eclipse that number this year, your financial support is critical.
