Below is the weekly summary of COVID-19 data from February 16-22, 2023, from the Georgia Department of Public Health.

COWETA COUNTY

Coweta County had the fewest number of new COVID-19 cases the past reporting week of Feb. 16-22 with 68, since recording 66 the week of Nov. 10-16, 2022. It was a decrease of 25 cases from the previous week. The county averaged 9.7 cases per day which was the first time below a double-digit average since early November 2022.

Overall, new cases was the only category to see a decrease. Coweta did have 1 death in the past week (up 1) and 9 hospitalizations (no change).

For the month of February, Coweta has posted 288 new cases (13.1 per day) with 3 deaths and 34 hospitalizations.

Per the Georgia Department of Public Health, 201,687 vaccines have been applied to Coweta residents thru Feb. 22 with 121 last week. The Coweta and Georgia vaccination rates follow – Coweta is at 56 percent with one dose (Georgia is at 67 percent), 52 percent fully vaccinated (Georgia is at 59 percent), 47 percent have been fully vaccinated and had a booster shot (Georgia 47 percent), and 24 percent have had an additional dose (Georgia 27 percent).

The overall positive test rate in Coweta is 13.8 percent this week, with the two-week infection rate dropping to 16.8 percent (from 17.1 last week).

Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 27,822 cases, 459 deaths (with an additional 68 probable deaths) and 2,157 hospitalizations through Feb. 22 from when the pandemic began some 34-plus months ago. Coweta ranks 19th in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases, 14th in deaths due to COVID and 16th in COVID-related hospitalizations.

GEORGIA

Georgia had declines in two of the four major COVID-19 categories for the week of February 16-22.

Georgia confirmed 3,676 cases for an average of 525.1 per day last week, falling by 804 cases from the previous week. It’s the lowest number of new cases in a week for the state since 3,086 the week of Nov. 17-23, 2022.

The other category to have a decrease was hospitalizations with 419, down 68 from the prior week.

Two categories had increases – deaths with 65 (up 8) and ICU admits of 43 (up 16).

The overall positive test rate in Georgia this week remains at 12.5 percent, with the two-week infection rate falling to 10.9 percent (11.6 percent last week).

Overall, Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 2,345,054 cases, 35,000 deaths, 137,960 hospitalizations and 17,627 ICU admits through Feb. 22 from when the pandemic began in March 2020.
