Below are fun, educational and family-friendly events in-and-around Coweta County this weekend.
The National Weather Service in Peachtree City says to expect partly sunny skies through Sunday. Today’s high will be 89 degrees, then 91 on Saturday and 86 on Sunday. Rain chances are listed at 30 percent for today and Saturday and increase to 70 percent on Sunday. Overnight lows will be near 70.

July 7 – FRIDAY
Park Frenzy Friday
10 a.m.-Noon at C.J. Smith Park, 92 Farmer Street, Newnan
Hosted by Newnan Leisure Services. A fantastic day of games and giveaways. Free treats will be available to all participants!
Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony
10:30 a.m. at Wadsworth Auditorium Parking Lot, 25 Jefferson Street, Newnan
The city of Newnan will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the recent renovation of the Wadsworth Auditorium Parking Lot. The ceremony will take place at the Lee Street entrance of the parking lot. Improvements include the addition of 20 new parking spaces, the main entrance stairs being repaired by city crews and the incorporation of beautiful landscaping with lights, decorative fencing, retaining wall, pavers, and ornate benches.
Zoom Into Space: Daytime Astronomy
3 p.m. at Chattahoochee Bend State Park, 425 Bob White Way, Newnan
Come observe the Sun and Venus through a telescope with our special guest, Astronomer Klaus Hodapp. This event will take place at the Day Use Area from 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. Please call the Visitor Center at 770-254-7271 if you have any questions.
First Friday
6 p.m. at Shamrock Park, 960 Senoia Road, Tyrone
Come hang out! Food vendors and Family-Friendly Fun. The Simply Awesome Band returns and is schedule to perform.

July 8 – SATURDAY
Healthy Me Hustle!
8 a.m. at Drake Field, 215 Willowbend Road, Peachtree City
Hosted by Healing Bridge Clinic. They kick off a 1+-mile walk around Drake Field. Walking is a great way to improve your mood AND get in better shape. You will also be treated to some delicious smoothies and a healthy lunch, courtesy of Alo Farms. Come Saturday and bring your family and friends!
Coweta County Farmers Market / Newnan
8:30 a.m.-Noon at Asa M. Powell Sr. Expo Center, 197 Temple Avenue, Newnan
Every Wednesday and Saturday (thru mid-October) Local farmers offer homegrown fruits, vegetables, homemade food items, plants and more!
Senoia Farmers Market
8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at 40 Travis Street, Senoia
It is a community-oriented marketplace that features a variety of local farmers, food producers, artisans, and craftsmen. You can find a wide selection of fresh produce, including fruits and vegetables, herbs, and flowers. There are also local food producers selling homemade baked goods, jams and jellies, honey, and other artisanal products. The market also features handmade crafts, such as pottery, jewelry, and textiles. Visitors can enjoy live music, food trucks, and other family-friendly activities. EVERY Saturday.
Serenbe Farmers Market
9 a.m. -1 p.m. at 9110 Selborne Lane, Palmetto
Serenbe Farmers Market offers a variety of healthy foods and artisanal goods on a large green space surrounded by a canopy of trees. Spend the morning shopping for your weekly groceries or unique gifts & wears while enjoying the beauty of nature.
Peachtree City Market
9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Aberdeen Village Shopping Center, Aberdeen Parkway, Peachtree City
This market brings approximately 60 vendors offering a variety of fresh produce, poultry, beef and pork, bread, sweet treats, honey, eggs, prepared foods and so much more. It’s the perfect place to find the consummate gift for the foodie in your life and visitors will also find live music going on.
Test of the Nest
1 p.m. at Chattahoochee Bend State Park, 425 Bob White Way, Newnan
Learn about the stages of a birds lifecycle and when a baby bird needs your help. Then we will decorate homemade bird feeders. We will meet up at the Day Use Area. $3 a person. $5 per vehicle or $3.75 military/veteran. Make sure you call and pre-register with the visitor’s center at 770-254-7271. 10 person limit.

July 9 – SUNDAY
Misery Auditions
7-9 p.m. at Newnan Theatre Company, 24 1st Avenue, Newnan • 770-683-6282 • newnantheatre.org
Newnan Theatre Company is excited to announce auditions for Misery. Misery is based on the 1987 novel of the same name by Stephen King, which was adapted by William Goldman. Auditions will be Sunday and Monday, July 9 and 10, from 7 – 9 p.m. Misery follows successful romance novelist Paul Sheldon, who is rescued from a car crash by his “number one fan,” Annie Wilkes, and wakes up captive in her secluded home. While Paul is convalescing, Annie reads his latest book and becomes enraged when she discovers the author has killed off her favorite character, Misery Chastain. Annie forces Paul to write a new Misery novel, and he quickly realizes Annie has no intention of letting him go anywhere. The irate Annie has Paul writing as if his life depends on it, and it does. Auditions will consist of drama games and cold readings from the script.
