Save on Clothing, Baby Items, Furniture and More at Thrift and Discount Retail Stores

As the cost of living and prices of everyday items continue to climb, many people need to find ways to reduce their spending. Shopping at thrift and discount retail stores can help families stretch their dollars and pay less for needed items. Here are some places to save on clothing, furniture, kitchenware, toys, baby items and more:
The Salvation Army
The Salvation Army Newnan Service Center offers an array of merchandise for low prices, starting at less than $1. With the Color of the Week promotion, shoppers can get clothing for women, men and children for 99 cents. Clothing items that have a sticker with a designated color (blue, green, yellow or orange) are eligible for this sale price.
Members of certain groups are also eligible for discounts. On Military Mondays, U.S. military service members can get 20 percent off any item in the store with their military ID. On Teacher Tuesdays, teachers will receive 20 percent off items in the thrift store. On Senior Wednesdays, senior citizens (55 and older) can take advantage of a buy one, get one free deal on clothing.
In addition, shoppers who buy a red Salvation Army bag for $2.25 can get 20 percent off clothing every day. The Salvation Army Newnan Service Center also offers a food pantry and clothing vouchers.
Patrons of the thrift store can find clothing for women, men and children (including maternity clothes, undergarments, sleepwear, swimwear and scrubs), shoes, coats, purses, jewelry, toys, baby strollers and bedding (pillows, throws and comforters). The Salvation Army also carries furniture (chairs, desks, sofas, dressers, nightstands and lamps), electronics, kitchenware, appliances (including toasters, toaster ovens, coffee makers and humidifiers), luggage, tools, books, DVDs, artwork and holiday decorations.

Goodwill Retail Store and Donation Center
The Goodwill Retail Store and Donation Center, with two locations in Newnan, also offers a Color of the Week discount. Each Sunday, Goodwill selects a new color and throughout the week, shoppers can save 50 percent off all items tagged with this color. On Saturday only, items tagged with this color are 99 cents.
Goodwill has a wide selection of items, including clothing, shoes and accessories for women, men and children (such as jeans, coats, belts, hats, men’s ties and undergarments), Halloween costumes, furniture (chairs, tables, sofas, book shelves, desks, end tables and dressers), home décor, kitchenware, tools, electronics and appliances (coffee makers, toaster ovens, air fryers, pressure cookers, microwaves, vacuum cleaners, hair dryers, curling irons, TVs and stereos), baby items (baby beds and bouncers), backpacks, bedding (comforters, blankets, throws and pillows), curtains, books, toys, DVDs, musical instruments, artwork and grab bags with miscellaneous items.
The thrift store now also offers online shopping. With this new online store, shoppers can find clothing, jewelry, toys and games, home items, musical instruments and more. Many purchases can be shipped (either free or with some charge) or are available for in-store pick up.
In addition, customers can sign up to become a Goodwill Perks member and receive exclusive

Clothes Less Traveled
The Clothes Less Traveled Nonprofit Thrift Shop is a trusted name in affordable thrift shopping since 1997 and opened its second location in Newnan in early August.
With a long-standing presence in Peachtree City, CLT has provided essential funding to dozens of local charities, scholarships to student volunteers, and free clothes and home essentials to neighbors in need. This is all possible due to CLT’s community of donors, volunteers, and shoppers.
The Newnan store offers a curated selection of affordable, gently used clothing and home decor.

Plato’s Closet
Plato’s Closet sells clothing, shoes and accessories for teens and young adults (women and men) for 50 to 70 percent off retail price. Customers can get additional Happy Hour discounts each day from 8 to 9 p.m., saving $5 off a $25 purchase. To receive the savings, shoppers must say the words “Happy Hour” at check out. The retail store occasionally also has clearance items for up to 90 percent off.
At Plato’s Closet, customers can find styles found in stores in the last two years, including jeans, pants, dresses, tops, T-shirts, athletic attire, purses, hats, belts and shoes. The retailer carries brands that appeal to teens and young adults, including American Eagle, H&M, Hollister, Old Navy, Lululemon, Adidas, Converse, Nike, Levi’s and more.
Shoppers can also get cash on the spot for their gently used brand name clothing, shoes and accessories. Plato’s Closet staff will review the items, and the seller will be offered 30 to 40 percent of the in-store price for these items. The retailer purchases merchandise for all seasons, all year round.

Once Upon a Child
Once Upon a Child, a second hand children’s clothing store, has gently used clothing, toys and books, footwear and baby gear. Merchandise is priced 50 to 70 percent off retail value. Clothing items include those for newborns to size 18/20, outerwear, costumes, dancewear, sleepwear and swimwear. The store’s footwear options include boots, dance shoes, sneakers, sandals, dress shoes and water shoes. Available baby gear includes strollers, highchairs, play yards, entertainers, swings and gates. Shoppers can also find an array of toys and books, including electronics, toys (such as activity, ride on and outdoor toys), puzzles and games. Once Upon a Child also has an array of Halloween costumes.
In addition to low prices, the retail store offers special deals throughout the year. Sleepwear is five for $15, bodysuits are 10 for $10 and clothing items made from bamboo are $20 or less. Parents can also join the New Baby Club to receive a free or discounted item each month until the baby turns 12 months or outgrows 18-month clothes. They can also sign up for the store’s loyalty program and earn points with each purchase.
Shoppers can also sell their gently used items to Once Upon a Child. When they bring in their items, the store’s staff will assess them for current style, safety and condition standards. Payment will be offered on the spot for all items accepted. To ensure safety and quality standards, Once Upon a Child is unable to buy car seats, recalled items and products that don’t meet current government safety standards.
