From Newnan Utilities

Newnan Utilities recently received multiple state and national honors recognizing its performance in safety and electric system reliability.

Newnan Utilities was awarded the American Public Power Association’s (APPA) 2025 Certificate of Excellence in Reliability, placing it among the top utilities nationwide and one of only a few in Georgia to receive this recognition. The award reflects strong performance in keeping outages shorter and less frequent for customers.

The utility also earned the APPA 2025 Diamond Safety Award, the highest level of recognition for safety among public power providers nationwide. This award highlights its ongoing commitment to safe work practices, training, and accountability.

At the state level, Newnan Utilities received the Diamond Level Jeff Cook Award for Safety Excellence from Electric Cities of Georgia (ECG). The award is evaluated by the Georgia Electric Municipal Safety Task Force, a peer group of utility professionals from across the state.

“Safety is the most important thing we do — period,” said Jeff Phillips, General Manager of Newnan Utilities. “We’re thankful for the work our electric, water, and wastewater employees do to stay safe while they provide outstanding service to our customers. It is an honor for our organization to be recognized with these awards for something that is so important to everyone.”

Newnan Utilities continues to invest in its system, its employees, and proactive maintenance to support safe, reliable electric service for its customers.
