From Coweta County Press Release

Coweta County Animal Services is excited to announce its newest program, Doggie Day Out, allowing citizens a chance to take shelter dogs for a day-long outing. The goal of the program is to give the dogs a break from the shelter, help citizens get acquainted with the animals, and as a result, hopefully increase adoptions.

Through the program, a citizen can go to the shelter and be matched with a dog. They will receive a backpack full of supplies for the day. The program will currently run Monday – Friday from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

There are some stipulations to the program including the dog must be under the control of an adult who is 18 years old, the dog must not be around unsupervised child(ren), distance must be maintained around other dogs, the citizen must be prepared for anything, and their car/home must be ready for an animal, among other items. A waiver must be signed for all those interested in participating in the program. If the objective of the outing is to potentially adopt the dog and see how they interact with other animals in the home, prior notice must be provided, and special instructions and approvals apply.

Following the outing, citizens are invited to fill out a Doggie Report Card to rate their experience with the dog and share details about the dog’s temperament. Citizens are encouraged to share photos from their outing with Coweta County Animal Services via their social media pages (Facebook & Instagram) or via email ([email protected]).

If interested in participating in the program, please call Coweta County Animal Services at 770-254-3735 or stop by the Animal Shelter located at 91 Selt Road, Newnan, GA. To learn more about the program, visit here.
