• West Georgia Technical College (WGTC) is gaining national recognition for its campus safety efforts thanks to the expertise and leadership of Police Chief James Perry. Earlier this year, Chief Perry was invited to write an article for Campus Safety Magazine highlighting WGTC’s implementation of the CENTEGIX mobile panic alert system. The system allows employees to press a wearable panic button, which instantly notifies campus police of the employee’s name and location.

• People are so quick (eager?) to misunderstand each other these days that we can no longer simply say what we mean, we also have to say what we don’t mean if we don’t feel like overly clarifying ourselves after people are already offended.

• Piedmont Newnan has received three achievement awards from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association for demonstrating commitment to following the latest research-based guidelines for the treatment of stroke and diabetes, ultimately leading to more lives saved, shorter recovery times and fewer hospital readmissions.Overall, Piedmont received 47 awards across its 25-hospital system. This year, Piedmont Newnan received the following achievement awards: • Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Award. • Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite • Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll.

• Piedmont Newnan Hospital has received the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR Chest Pain ̶ MI Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2025. It is the fourth consecutive year the hospital has earned this recognition. The other Piedmont hospitals earning this award are Piedmont Henry, Piedmont Fayette, and Piedmont Augusta.

• This year’s Kiwanis Coweta County Fair will take place at the Coweta County Fairgrounds and Conference Center. It’s 11-day run begins on Thursday, Sept. 18 and ends on Sunday, Sept. 28. The Mega Pass has once again returned for Fair attendees to save money and Mega Pass purchases can be made now online and later at in-person locations in Newnan. The Mega Pass gives Coweta County Fair attendees an Unlimited Ride Armband to be used once any day during the fair. Recipients who purchase a Mega Pass will receive both Gate Admission to the fair and an Unlimited Ride Armband for only $30. That is a savings of $15 on Fridays and Saturdays when considering Gate Admission is $10 and Ride Armbands are $35.
