School is back in session, and it’s never too early for parents to start looking for resources to help their children achieve academic success.
Tutoring services, after-school programs and extracurricular activities offer a number of benefits, but they can add up for families with a limited budget. Several local businesses and organizations are offering discounts on their services to make them more attainable to all children.
Mathnasium of Newnan
During the month of August, Mathnasium of Newnan is giving customers 15 percent off the cost of regular fees. Mention this column to receive the discount.
The math-focused learning center helps children in grades K-12 by teaching math the way that makes sense to them. Specially trained math instructors teach children in an individual setting. After assessing what each child knows and needs to learn, they design a customized learning plan for teaching concepts the student needs to master. Instructors will also assist with homework assignments.

Kumon Math and Reading Center of Newnan
Kumon Math and Reading Center of Newnan is offering 50 percent off a student’s registration fee from Aug. 16 to Sept. 20. The registration fee will be $25, instead of the usual fee of $50.
Also, from Oct. 16 to Oct. 31, the after-school academic enrichment program will offer a free, two-week trial period.
Kumon Math and Reading Center of Newnan works with children ages 3 through high school and offers free placement tests.
With a track record of helping children achieve success worldwide, Kumon aims to build a strong academic foundation and allows each child to work at his or her own pace. Kumon wants to help children build confidence, concentration skills and good study habits.

During the month of August, Brain Balance of Peachtree City is giving customers $50 off the cost of the personalized assessment. The assessment will be $245, instead of the regular fee of $295.
Brain Balance of Peachtree City helps children who struggle with learning, behavior or social issues, including ADHD, Asperger syndrome, high functioning autism, PDD-NOS, dyslexia, processing disorders and other spectrum disorders. Brain Balance uses an integrated approach that focuses on the whole child and combines physical and sensory-motor exercises with academic skill training, healthy nutrition and confidence building.

Boys & Girls Club
The Howard Warner Boys & Girls Club and Newnan/Coweta Boys & Girls Club are currently accepting applications for the organization’s after-school program. Payment is based on a sliding scale using household income. Membership is free for Amerigroup members, and CareSource, Peach State and WellCare members also receive financial assistance.
The regular membership fee is $60 with a $15 transportation fee from designated schools.
The Boys & Girls Club offers programs that help kids succeed in school, live healthy and become leaders, including tutoring/homework help and a variety of special programs and activities.

Coweta County 4-H
Coweta County 4-H helps youth acquire knowledge and develop life skills through hands-on learning experiences focused on agricultural and environmental issues, agriculture awareness, leadership, communication skills, food and nutrition, health, energy conservation and citizenship.
Local youth can join Coweta County 4-H by contacting the Coweta County Extension Office at 770-254-2620. Kids who are at least 9 years old and have not reached their 19th birthday on or before Jan. 1 of the current year may enroll in 4-H clubs, judging and quiz bowl teams, target sports teams and more. They can choose from more than 50 project areas, participate in hundreds of events and apply for scholarships.
