From Coweta Schools Press Release
Coweta’s high schools anticipate over 1,700 seniors to walk at commencement exercises held this week, as the Coweta County School System’s academic year comes to a close.
This year’s graduating seniors comprise a class of students whose freshman year was interrupted by a pandemic in the spring of 2020, whose sophomore year was paused by the effects of an EF-4 tornado and who – in the case of Newnan High seniors – persevered through the reconstruction of their campus during their junior and senior years.
East Coweta High anticipes 716 graduating seniors on Wednesday, May 22. Northgate anticipates 455 graduating seniors on Thursday, May 23. Newnan High School anticipates about 540 graduating seniors on Friday, May 24. This week’s graduation schedule is:
Wednesday, May 22 – East Coweta High School Graduation, at Shoemake Stadium, 7:30 p.m. (inclement weather make-up date Thursday, May 23, 7:30 p.m.)

Because of the size of the graduating classes, all three schools will hold graduation ceremonies in their respective stadiums only, to accommodate families and community members who wish to attend. The scheduled graduation exercises will only be delayed in the case of mild inclement weather such as evening showers, and resumed when weather permits that evening. Each school has also set alternate graduation dates of the next day in the unlikely event that weather postpones the scheduled event.
High schools are also reminding participants to arrive early for parking at each graduation event. To relieve campus traffic, East Coweta High School is providing transportation from two satellite locations starting at 5 p.m., including Poplar Road Elementary (2925 Poplar Rd, Sharpsburg, GA 30277) and Lee Middle School (370 Willis Rd, Sharpsburg, GA 30277). Shuttle buses will be available to transport EC graduation visitors to and from both schools, and a bus will be available to transport anyone needing wheelchair accessibility.
