Keep Newnan Beautiful, in partnership with the Georgia Power Foundation, and Citizens of Georgia Power, recently created an outdoor STEM classroom for Newnan Crossing Elementary School. Made possible through a Legacy Project grant from the Georgia Power Foundation, Georgia Power employee volunteers, along with PTO members, school faculty and staff, and KNB staff, volunteered their time to construct the outdoor classroom.

Keep Newnan Beautiful Director Page Beckwith shared, “This project demonstrates what is possible when businesses, nonprofits, schools, and community volunteers come together to invest in the children of our community. We are incredibly grateful to Georgia Power Foundation and Citizens of Georgia Power for their generous investment in this project and appreciate every volunteer who helped bring this vision to life.”

Dr. Page Tarleton, Principal of Newnan Crossing Elementary School, said the new outdoor classroom has already generated excitement throughout the school. “Our teachers are excited about the countless opportunities this space provides to bring learning outdoors and create meaningful, hands-on experiences. Our students will explore the gardens, observe nature, and discover science in a whole new way.”

A true community collaboration, this outdoor STEM classroom transformed an underutilized area of the school into an engaging environment designed to inspire curiosity and environmental stewardship, and promote hands-on exploration. The new STEM classroom includes four raised garden beds, outdoor journaling tables, reading hammocks, a weather station, a root-view planter, and a mobile STEM activity wall. #
