ChildrenConnect Newnan Children’s Museum hosted their Safety City Camp this past Spring Break, April 2-5, in partnership with Newnan Fire Department, Newnan Police Department, Newnan Utilities, Coweta Fire & Rescue, the City of Newnan, and Mayor Keith Brady.

Elementary school-aged campers learned all about safety and emergency readiness directly from Newnan first responders. They experienced a lineup of fire safety demonstrations, guided tours of emergency and police vehicles, health and safety activities with EMTs, lessons on water, energy, and electricity safety and wrapped the week up with a graduation ceremony with Mayor Keith Brady.

Parent Brent Snodgrass said, “It was a really unique way for my sons to see and experience all the different areas of public safety. Each day had its own unique element that my boys would rave about. Exploring inside the ambulance and riding on the gurney was definitely a highlight. Shooting the fire hose was epic and meeting all the police was great. They especially loved their sticker badges. The kids get to do a bit of this in school, but Safety City took it to another level and they got a lot more time interacting with each service. Plus it was something fun for them to keep busy during Spring Break and it was in a convenient location.”

“We thank the ChildrenConnect Museum for including our Newnan Utilities linemen, collection and distribution crew members,” said Melissa Payton, the Community Relations and Programs Manager for Newnan Utilities. “By rallying with our local emergency services to share knowledge about utilities, electricity, and emergency services, we can cultivate an environment where our local children feel informed and empowered to make safe choices.”

“It’s been incredible to provide this enriching experience right here in the heart of Newnan,” said Amber Pointdexter, Program Chair for ChildrenConnect Museum. “Alongside our dedicated community partners, volunteers, and board members, ChildrenConnect was able to craft an engaging and educational camp that celebrates safety and community. This camp embodies the spirit of Newnan, empowering our campers for a brighter, safer future! We hope to continue it next year.”
