Sunrise on the Square Road Race set for Sept. 2

The Sunrise on the Square Road Race is a local favorite which has been held annually in downtown Newnan for over 46 years.

The race returns to its place on the calendar again in 2023 – the Saturday before Labor Day – and is set for September 2 at 8 a.m. Main Street Newnan serves as the event’s host in partnership to benefit the Newnan-Coweta Boys & Girls Club.

Registration for this year’s event is now open. The 5K race begins in downtown Newnan and spans through “The City of Homes,” where runners will catch a glimpse of our beautiful, historic in-town neighborhoods and commercial district.

The race features a 5K USATF certified course (chipped timing), where runners will enjoy the diversity of terrain, including: long flat stretches, downhill, and uphill sections. The Sunrise on the Square Labor Day Road race welcomes both runners and walkers of all skill levels.

Awards for overall Male/Female finishers include – Overall M/F Masters ; Top three Male/Female in age groups 10 & under, 11-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, and 70 & over. The 5K is USATF Certified (USATF 5K GA19040WC) and CHIPPED TIMED. Times can be used for seeding in Peachtree 10K but runner will have to submit information.

6:30 a.m. … On-site registration and check-in for registered runners and walkers
7:30 a.m. … Check-in & on-site registration ends
8 a.m. … 5K starts

Runners are encouraged to register prior to August 11, which is the end date for early registration. Runners who register after this date are not guaranteed a race tee shirt. Runners may pick up their race day packets in advance on Thursday, August 31 from 2-6 p.m. and Friday, September 1 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Dragonfly Running Company, located at 10 LaGrange Street in downtown Newnan. Runners may also pick up their race day packets before the event begins on Saturday.

Free parking is available along downtown streets, and in the City of Newnan’s public parking lots, located at: 13 Lagrange Street, 25 Lagrange Street, 22 Spring Street, 6 First Avenue, 50 East Broad Street, 65 East Broad Street, 41 East Washington Street, and 22 East Broad Street.
