Our local libraries – the Newnan Carnegie Library in downtown Newnan and the four branches of the Coweta Public Library System – offer an amazing assortment of classes and events for all ages. Check out their calendars on their websites: newnancarnegie.com and cowetapubliclibrary.org for fun.

A small sample from Coweta Public Libraries include Storybook Yoga and Chair Yoga at Central Library, Preschool Story Time at Senoia Branch, 3-D Print Club at Powell Branch and Toddler Story Time at Grantville Branch. There’s a bookclub: As the Pages Turn Book Club at Grantville Branch. And a Blood Drive presented by American Red Cross at Central Library May 30, 2 to 6 p.m. Plus, the Coweta libraries will offer a lot of fun opportunities for the summer.

Newnan Carnegie offers Exercise Is Medicine, Gentle Yoga and Crochet, Book Club with Lola, Literary Circle Book Club, and more on a regular basis. There’s Chess Club and Lunch and Learn, and Guided Meditation and Breathing. On May 14, The Edgar B Hollis Distinguished Author series continues with a book launch with author Tera Shelton Harris. Inspired by the same story highlighted in the 2023 documentary Silver Dollar Road, Long After We Are Gone is centered around a legal process called “heir property,” a form of ownership that began during the Reconstruction when many Black people did not have access to the legal system and began to pass on land to their heirs without a legal will. The story of four siblings—each fighting their own personal battle—who return home in the wake of their father’s death to save their family’s home from being sold out from under them. Literary Circle Book Club meets May 20 to discuss Angie Kim’s novel Happiness Falls.

Newnan’s own Southern Litfest returns June 7 & 8! Literature, nature and art intersect as they “unplug” and discover the joys and challenges of living off the grid with Legendary original Riverkeeper Sally Bethea, Ansel Adams award winning outdoor photographer CC Lockwood, LPBS star Gwen Roland of Atchafalaya Houseboat fame, Newnan Theatre Company’s classic animal romp, Aesop’s Fables, and back by popular demand syndicated columnist and humorist Sean Dietrich! Southern Litfest kicks off Friday evening alfresco on the Square with a Hometown Novel Writers Association lineup of regional authors for every age– so grab a friend, mix and mingle and find that great summer read!
