THE SKINNY – All COVID-19 categories are beginning to rise again as the holiday season begins here in Coweta County.

Below is a summary of COVID-19 data thru Friday, Nov. 19 from the Georgia Department of Public Health.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

Coweta County confirmed 75 new COVID-19 cases, 5 deaths and 20 hospitalizations during the past week of Nov. 13-19, increasing in all categories from the previous reporting week of Nov. 6-12. 

Coweta reported an increase of 6 new cases for an average of 10.7 per day. In addition, Coweta also saw an increase in deaths for the third consecutive week by 1 and a rise in hospitalizations by 12. The 20 hospitalizations were the most since 30 from Oct. 9-15.

For November, Coweta County has posted 190 cases (10.0 per day), 11 deaths and 37 hospitalizations.

Per the Georgia Department of Public Health, Coweta County has a vaccination rate of 48 percent for people with one dose and 44 percent for fully vaccinated as of Nov. 19. Full vaccination rates for neighboring counties includes Fayette at 61 percent, Fulton at 55 percent, Spalding (40%), Meriwether (40%), Carroll (37%), Troup (36%) and Heard (28%).

The positive test rate this week of all persons tested in Coweta was 10.7 percent, and in the last two weeks stands at 4.3 percent. Last week, those test rates were at 10.8 and 3.9, respectively.

Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 12,911 cases, 345 deaths (with an additional 38 probable deaths) and 842 hospitalizations thru Nov. 19from when the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 24th in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases, 14th in deaths due to COVID and 25th in COVID-related hospitalizations.

GEORGIA CASES

Georgia confirmed 5,146 COVID-19 cases for an average of 735.1 per day for the reporting period of Nov. 13-19. It was an increase of 815 cases from last week’s period (Nov. 6-12). 

Georgia also had 194 deaths (down 64 from last week), 759 hospitalizations (down 45) and 132 ICU admits (up 14).

Regarding vaccinations, the Georgia Department of Public Health reports that 11,928,609 vaccinations have been applied in Georgia (229,217 in the past week, down 2,674 from the previous week) through Nov. 19. Of those, 5,976,801 Georgia residents or 57 percent have 1 dose of the vaccine while 5,273,909 or 51 percent have been fully vaccinated.

Two patient census categories dropped and two increased in the past week.  The number of COVID Patients Hospitalized dropped by 77 and is now at 874 or 5.4 percent of all people hospitalized in Georgia. And Adult Ventilators in Use fell by 57 and is at 1,094 or 27.1 percent capacity by the end of the week. 

The two categories which rose in the past week included ICU Beds in Use rising by 46 and now stands at 2,409 or 82.8 percent capacity statewide. In-Patient Hospital Beds in Use saw an increase of 612 and now totals 13,067 or 84.9 percent capacity.

The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 10.8 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 3.4 percent. Last week, those numbers were 10.9 and 3.3, respectively.

Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 1,277,939 cases, 25,546 deaths, 88,574 hospitalizations and 13,853 ICU admits thru Nov. 19 from when the pandemic began.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8, 2021); deaths (188 on Oct. 15, 2021); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6, 2021); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12, 2020).
