West Georgia Technical College (WGTC) celebrated its graduates on Thursday, May 9 with two commencement ceremonies at the Murphy Campus Conference Center in Waco and the Callaway Conference Center in LaGrange.
The ceremonies honored students who received associate degrees, diplomas, and technical certificates across various fields, including healthcare, information technology, business, and industrial technologies. 267 students walked across the stage to receive their degree, diploma, or technical certificate from WGTC President Dr. Julie Post, with some students obtaining more than one credential. Over 1,000 awards were conferred this semester.
“Our graduates have shown incredible tenacity and commitment to their education,” Post said. “We are immensely proud of each one of them and are confident they will continue to achieve great success in their future endeavors.”
The keynote speeches were given by Sara Ray, CEO and President of the Douglas County Chamber of Commerce, at the Murphy Campus, and by Candace Boothby, CEO and President of the Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce, at the LaGrange Campus. Both speakers shared their inspiring journeys and highlighted the transformative power of technical education.
The joy of graduation was amplified for two families who celebrated multiple family members graduating together – a highlight at both ceremonies. Hannah Hill and her brother Seth Hill both received Welding and Joining Technology diplomas at the Murphy ceremony. At the LaGrange ceremony, Twana Williams received her Culinary Arts diploma, while her daughter, Sabreyon Q. Williams, received an Associate of Applied Science in Business Healthcare Technology.
