From Special Reports
Plans are underway for the 27th annual Public Safety Appreciation Luncheon scheduled for Thursday, October 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Coweta County Fairgrounds and Conference Center.
The Newnan-Coweta Public Safety Foundation will continue its mission to support the local public service agencies with new leadership following the passing of founder and longtime chair Norma Haynes, who passed away on March 10. Norma was known for her dedication to first responders, often calling them “my children” and will be remembered as the Mother of Public Safety.
Pat Craven has been named the new leader of the foundation that serves all public safety employees across Coweta County and the City of Newnan.
The Public Safety Appreciation Luncheon brings together public safety personnel from multiple agencies for a meal, desserts and fellowship away from the demands of the job. The luncheon is about more than food; it is an opportunity for men and women from different agencies to sit down together, something they rarely have time for when responding to emergencies.
In addition to the luncheon, the foundation provides emergency financial and medical assistance for employees, funding for equipment and supplies, educational material for children and scholarships for graduating seniors. Since 2015, the foundation has awarded 53 college scholarships, including its first trade school scholarship this year.
The success of the foundation comes from community support, the dedication of its board and the ongoing commitment of the local public safety agencies.
The community is invited to support the luncheon by donating desserts that may be delivered to the Fairgrounds Conference Center by 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 9 or to Beth Headley at United Bank, 61 Bullsboro Drive in Newnan, by 10 a.m. on that day.
Donations can also be sent to Newnan-Coweta Public Safety Foundation, P.O. Box 1113, Newnan, GA 30264.
