A day / night celebration will take place as Newnan observes Independence Day on Thursday, July 4.

For starters, Main Street Newnan’s annual Independence Day Parade will roll through downtown at 9 a.m. And later in the evening, it’s the yearly Let Freedom Ring Celebration hosted by the Rotary Club of Newnan. The Fireworks Show will be held at Newnan High School’s lower field with gates opening at 5 p.m. Entry to the event will be on Armory Road.

The Newnan-Coweta History is also hosting its first 4th of July Car Show with cars and trucks from bygone days beginning at 10:30 a.m., just after the parade. This is a fundraiser for the History Center with a minimum donation of $5 per person or $20 per family. The event will be held in the McRitchie-Hollis Museum parking lot, located at 74 Jackson Street in Newnan.

The Parade is set to begin at Veteran’s Memorial Park at the corner of Temple Avenue and Jackson Street and will proceed south on Jackson. It will end at Long Place (corner of Jackson and LaGrange Street).

Though with the return of the Fireworks Show to Newnan High and its ongoing construction, parking will be limited. Attendees are encouraged to walk to the school or plan accordingly.

The lower field near Drake Stadium will be open for families to gather and watch the show. Food trucks, including Chick-fil-A, J. Holt’s BBQ, Foundation Church, Mr. Frosty LLC, and the Social Sugar, are scheduled to be at the celebration. Popcorn and water will be available from the Newnan Rotary Club.

Free celebration gear will be handed out. Live music by The Interns is scheduled from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and The Expectations from 8-9 p.m. The Fireworks Show is sponsored by the city of Newnan and Coweta County and begins at 9 p.m.

Both events are free and open to the public.
