37th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr., Day Celebration, Parade set for Jan. 9,10

The 37th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Day Celebration will take place on Friday and Saturday, January  9 and 10 in downtown Newnan.

The Celebration is sponsored by the Newnan Chapter No. 483, Order of the Easter Star, Prince Hall, Jurisdiction of Georgia. This year’s theme – “Heal the World in the Spirit of Love, Peace, Unity, Justice and Non-Violence – demonstrates the accomplishments that the Newnan Chapter No. 483, O.E.S. has achieved in commemorating the life of the Honorable Dr. King for 37 consecutive years.

On Friday, the MLK, Jr., Commemorative Service will be held at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, located at 6 Lovelace Street in Newnan. It will begin at 7 p.m.

And on the next day (Saturday), the parade begins at Noon starting at 15 Cavender Street (Old Papp Clinic parking lot) and will proceed south on Jackson Street into downtown Newnan. The parade concludes at Line Creek Brewing The Reserve at 18 Savannah Street. Floats are asked to be in place by 10 a.m. for judging, which is scheduled to begin at 10:15 a.m. Cars, walkers and all other participants will line-up at 11 a.m. Judging and the awarding of trophies will go to the best-looking car, truck or bike.

To participate in the parade, participants have three options – float, a car or motorcycle, and walk. The fee for individual motorcycles will be $15 for driver, $10 for passenger, and the fee for all other participants will be $35 for cars, and $50 for floats. All of the proceeds will go toward our Scholarship program and donations will be accepted.
