The Interview: Kris Youmans

This month, The Paper visited with our music columnist Kris Youmans of the Kris Youmans Band for a Q&A.
Briefly describe yourself and what you do/did.
Mom, wife of Slim, singer/songwriter, retired health care worker, contributor to The Paper, organizer of musical fundraisers, Savannah native, Hank’s person.
Best piece of advice you’ve received.
If I had it to do over …
I would acquire a music & audio engineering degree.
You are going on an extended solo trip. What three albums and three books would you take?
Allman Bros-Eat a Peach, Sierra Ferrell – Long Time Coming, Eric Culberson – Live from the Bamboo Room,
The Kite Runner, Where the Crawdads Sing, & any book of Poems
Tell us one thing about yourself that few people know.
I hitchhiked with friends to N.C. to a huge rock concert to see The Allman Brothers (Don’t tell my Dad).
You are hosting a dinner party for six. What five people, living or dead, would you invite and why.
Have to have more than six so….
Grandma Carlson – because somebody has to know proper etiquette
Mama – somebody has to keep the rowdy folks in line & she held a third degree black belt
Annette Youmans- somebody has to organize
Dr Burney- we’ll need a Trivia master
Cheri – sister- we need her recipes
Warren ‘Slim’ – I’ll need my funny husband with a wealth of knowledge
Eric Culberson – brother – We have to hear the Blues
Mickey Youmans – brother- for his Pirate stories
Name an as yet unfulfilled dream.

If you weren’t doing what you are, you would be …
Sittin’ on the dock of the bay or traveling with Slim.

Married Mr. Hall. And also I’m glad I played that first song in public at the Port Royal on River Street.
What advice would you give your younger self just starting out on their own
Don’t be so serious. Be confident. Be helpful (everybody struggles).

I love you Kris. I’m so glad you and Slim hooked up. You both deserve someoone that appreciateds each other. I’ll never forget those nights at the Atlanta Sports bar. You, Maggie and Dave. I knew you had a beautiful voice. I’m so glad you gathered the confidence to “belt it out”.
This interview was great. When it comes to the local music scene here in Newnan, Kris is the best. She is a great singer-songwriter, has a fantastic band and if you play music she is very kind to lend a helping hand if needed.
