AAA: Gas prices holding steady at the pumps

From AAA Media Services, Staff Reports

Georgia gas prices are slightly lower than a week ago. Georgia motorists are now paying an average price of $3.24 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline. Today’s (Nov. 22) state average is 1 cent less than a week ago, 4 cents more than last month and $1.29 more than this time last year.

It now costs motorists $48.60 to fill a 15-gallon tank of gasoline; that is $11.70 more than what motorists paid in January of 2020 when pump prices hit their peak of $2.46 per gallon.

Here in Coweta County, lists the lowest price for regular unleaded at $3.08 at Sam’s Club and $3.09 at Costco, both in the 30277 zip code area. In Newnan’s 30263 zip area, the lowest price is $3.12 at Pilot (Moreland Exit off I-85). BJ’s Club has the lowest price in the 30265 zip area at $3.12 with Kroger and RaceTrac at $3.19. And in Senoia, the lowest price is $3.15 at Circle K (Hwy. 85 at Wells Street).

“There are several factors gasoline prices have soared this year, such as, high crude oil prices and increase driving demand.” said Montrae Waiters, AAA-The Auto Club Group spokeswoman. “AAA predicts 1.5 million Georgians will be hitting the road for Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, it appears these high gas prices will hang around through the holiday.”

National Average Holds Steady

Since last Monday, the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline has decreased by a penny to $3.40. According to data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), total domestic gasoline stocks decreased by 700,000 barrels to 212 million barrels last week. Gasoline demand also dropped slightly from 9.26 million barrels a day to 9.24 million barrels a day. The decrease in demand, alongside stocks, has helped to lower pump prices and minimize pump price increases. However, gasoline prices will likely remain elevated as long as oil prices are near $80 per barrel.
