CCF increases turnout at 2nd Annual Nonprofit Summit

To help fulfill its goal of serving nonprofits in Coweta County, the Coweta Community Foundation hosted its second annual Nonprofit Summit on February 2 and 3, 2023, at the Sharpsburg Campus of Crossroads Church.

The event was designed to offer nonprofits everything they need to better serve their organization and the community. The summit offered keynote speakers, breakout workshops, training, discussions, consulting and networking opportunities.

“As the Foundation celebrated our 25th anniversary last year, it seemed like the perfect time to encourage collaboration among community organizations and agencies and offer them some training and inspiration,” said CCF Executive Director Kristin Webb. “The event was such a success that we decided to make it an annual event, and the numbers this year showed us that there is an ongoing need for this type of training.”

Some 165 individuals attended over the two days of the event, including 70 local 501(c)3 organizations, 49 of them from Coweta County. This year, 25 new nonprofits attended. And while last year, the average nonprofit sent just one representative to the event, this year, 2.3 attendees from each organization were present.

CCF Board Chair Cynthia Bennett was also pleased with the event.

“I appreciate most the vibrant atmosphere created with all of these caring, passionate and hard-working individuals who were gathered in one place,” Bennett said. “The conversation and collaboration was truly energizing.”

One attendee said afterward, “I think the Nonprofit Summit was one of the best professional experiences I’ve had. There was real content provided in an embracing atmosphere. It is a stellar example of the quality of the Foundation’s work and leadership.”

With the Business Women of Fayette & Coweta as Presenting Sponsor, the Nonprofit Summit featured keynote speakers including author, historian, and nonprofit founder Carolyn Curry, who is also the wife of two-time Super Bowl champion and former college football coach Bill Curry; Lori Shapiro, Employment Counsel, Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta; Brad Down, Vice President, General Manager of Cargill; and Newnan philanthropist Steve Swope. 

On Thursday and Friday, 25 workshop presenters hosted classes and spoke on topics ranging from setting personal boundaries and communicating to basic accounting, managing volunteers, fundraising and more.

The Coweta Community Foundation’s mission is to enhance the community’s quality of life by encouraging philanthropic interaction to provide a catalyst to help focus local philanthropy on the community’s ever-changing needs. As a Foundation, it manages individual gifts and bequests that enhance and support the quality of life in Coweta County.
