City of Newnan plans to re-open facilities on May 14

For the past several weeks, the City of Newnan has been operating with a limited staff to allow many of its employees to adhere to Governor Brian Kemp’s Shelter in Place order. Several of the city’s staff will return to work on Thursday, May 14.
In the efforts to remain consistent with guidance on limiting the spread of COVID-19 through social distancing, the City of Newnan asks that you continue conducting business with the city through communicating via phone and email, when possible. Residents will still be able to visit the city’s website at www.cityofnewnan.org for information on services, forms, and other needed items.
All city administration and staff at each of the city’s facilities will host face-to-face meetings on a scheduled basis. At Newnan City Hall, all visitors will be scheduled to meet in the 2nd Floor Conference Room. It will be required for masks to be worn by employees and visitors during the scheduled appointment, and temperature checks will be performed on visitors.
As of May 14, the following city facilities, departments, programs, and services will be open to the public with minimal access, in accordance with the practice of maintaining social distancing and general health guidelines for individuals and organizations:
· Newnan Police Department
· Newnan Fire Department
· Public Works
· City Garage
· Facility Maintenance
· Newnan City Hall
· Main Street Newnan
· Keep Newnan Beautiful
· Leisure Services
· Carnegie Library
The city’s public safety facilities will open to the public with minimal access through the main vestibule and entry hallways. All business interactions will be conducted through each facility’s main entryways or window counters.
Municipal Court will remain suspended until further notice.
Newnan City Hall
The public will be allowed in the vestibule and entry hallways. All business transactions for Finance, Planning & Zoning, and Building departments will be conducted through the department’s window counters. No groups larger than six (6) will be allowed in the conference rooms at City Hall.
Public Works, Streets, Garage, Cemetery, Beautification, and Facility Maintenance
Public Works, Streets, Garage, Cemetery, Beautification and Facility Maintenance will all resume regular operations.
Leisure Services will return to regularly scheduled with minimal operations. Public restrooms at each of the city’s parks will reopen with the limited hours of 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Newnan Carnegie Library
The Carnegie Library will reopen on a limited basis with minimal operations between the hours of 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Anyone visiting the library must wear a face covering. Public restrooms will remain closed. No more than ten (10) individuals, including staff, will be allowed into the facility. No programming or rentals of the facility will be permitted. In addition, the Children’s Room will be closed, and numerous circulation items such as books, DVDs, and newspapers will be suspended.
The City Trolley will remain out of service.
The City of Newnan is committed to the safety and well-being of citizens and visitors. The city will continue to re-evaluate these decisions and will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and encourage citizens and visitors to abide by the CDC guidelines to prevent the illness from spreading.
