From Special Reports

Opening day for the Coweta County Farmer’s Market is just around the corner on Saturday, June 4 at 9 a.m. at the Asa Powell Expo Center located at 197 Temple Avenue and will be open each Wednesday and Saturday from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

The market offers fresh produce from local farms and gardens as well as other items. For the first time, we will have tomatoes for sale on opening day! You will also find eggs, peaches, potatoes, squash, onions, radishes, carrots, kale, green beans, cucumbers, jams, jellies, bread, pound cake, cut flowers, honey and more! In addition to all of these homegrown goodies, local artisans feature unique hand-made arts and crafts.

Thanks to our sponsors, AgSouth, Arnall Grocery and Sterling Promotions, the market will again feature a plant giveaway on opening day, so get there early to claim your tomato plant and shopping bag.

“It’s hard to beat locally grown produce. Our market vendors are eager to see everyone after the long winter and cool spring.” says County Extension Coordinator, Stephanie Butcher. “We will have a large variety of items available on opening day, and it won’t be long before corn and other summer vegetables are ready for harvest too.”

If you are interested in becoming a vendor, vendor fees are $3/day, $5/week or $20/month and applications are available at www.ugaextension.org/coweta.

The Coweta County Farmer’s Market is coordinated by the University of Georgia’s Coweta County Cooperative Extension office. For more information, contact the office at 770-254-2620, or market manager, Cynthia Jackson at 678-378-2415.
