Coweta Gets New Rescue Vehicle
Coweta County recently took possession of new $300,000 BearCat from Massachusett-based Lenco Armored Vehicles.
The fully bulletproof vehicle can comfortably seat 12 personnel for a variety of missions.
When hurricane force winds prevent ambulances from going out because of their height, the Bearcat can perform those duties, according to Major Mark Fenninger with the Coweta Sheriff’s Office.
“It is a rescue tool for our deputies to use 24/7,” Fenninger added. Besides hurricane and highwater situations, the BearCat can also be used in hostage situations and as a barrier to put between a gunman and a wounded officer.
The BearCat is equipped with bulletproof tires, multiple gun ports, four independent search lights, intercom system and multiple rescue tools and protective gear.
