‘“Seeing Newnan” is a city-wide exploration of community, identity, and culture based in Newnan, Georgia, and surrounding Coweta County.
In 2016, Mary Beth was invited by the University of West Georgia to serve as Artist in Residence in Newnan. Mary Beth spent the next two years working to understand the town, its history, and its people, through a process of collaborative portraiture.
In Spring 2019, the resulting portraits were installed as large-scale banners in Newnan’s downtown. The installation will be in place for one year, providing a springboard for public engagement and conversation around questions that the community deems important, including such topics as history, tradition, inclusion, and racial equity.
MEET MARY BETH and the people pictured in the banners on Friday, March 29th, during Newnan’s Art Walk on the Square, 6:00 p.m. at Redneck Gourmet
A PUBLIC RECEPTION will be held on Thursday, April 18, at 6:00 p.m., University of West Georgia Auditorium, Newnan campus.”
