Golf Ladies Life donates $15,000 to Meals on Wheels of Coweta

From Special Reports
Golf Ladies Life donated $15,000 to Meals on Wheels of Coweta as part of their annual gift to a local nonprofit.
“We are very grateful to the Golf Life Ladies for selecting us as their nonprofit for this year. We appreciate the generous fundraising effort of their Tournament O’ Fun,” said Cynthia Bennett, chair of Meals on Wheels of Coweta.
In partnership with White Oak Golf Club and the Newnan-Coweta Chamber, Golf Life Ladies just finished its sixth season of the women’s golf league. Golf Life Ladies is also known as ‘The Social Golf League,” where women can grow new relationships all while learning and playing the game. League members choose from a clinic taught by a golf pro or 9-hole play; after golf, networking takes place. This league exists to help women learn the game of golf in a fun and encouraging environment, while benefiting a 501(c)(3) with all proceeds at the end of each season.
This year, nonprofits were nominated and the top three came to speak at a meeting of the league; afterwards, votes were tallied up and the ladies chose Meals on Wheels of Coweta. Meals on Wheels of Coweta (MOWOC) helps at-risk elder adults live safely in their own homes for as long as possible by providing these free services: home delivered meals, handyman services, friendly visitors, and pet care assistance.
MOWOC clients are 65+ years old, homebound, and unable to prepare meals for themselves because of frailty disability, and/or chronic or terminal illness. MOWOC currently serves 154 clients on 18 routes in Coweta County. This is achieved with 5 part time employees and over 200 volunteers who generously give their time to deliver meals.
“This generous donation will yield 3,000 nutritious meals. We are on track to serve 38,000 much needed meals to homebound elder adults in Coweta County in 2019,” said BennettThe growth in the past four years from delivering daily meals to 80 homebound elder adults to the current 150 daily meals is due to very generous community support. This financial gift from Golf Life Ladies is the perfect example what one group of aware and concerned women can do to make a significant impact in our community,” Bennett added.
“We are pleased to represent a community of women that have the heart to give back,” said Samantha Brazie, co-founder of Golf Life Ladies. “We are so thankful to the ladies in our league that contribute to a great cause for six months out of the year. This donation is a reflection of amazing sponsors and many members of our community that truly want to make a difference.”
Over the past six years, Golf Life Ladies has donated over $95,000 within Coweta County.
“Our 6th Annual Tournament O’ Fun was a huge success and continues to grow every year. We are so grateful to all of our sponsors, volunteers and players who came out to help us finish our fundraising efforts for MOWOC” said Kim Melhouse-Guerra.
The Golf Life Ladies league is open to women who would like to develop local connections while practicing the game of golf. League membership includes access to a private golf club and affordable, fun, organized golf opportunities. Due to their partnership with White Oak GC, the league is not exclusive to White Oak members. To join Golf Life Ladies, email [email protected] or call Samantha-770-820-5559 or Kim-678-249-7394.
