Kiwanis Club of Newnan honors members at Annual Banquet

The Kiwanis Club of Newnan recently hosted its members and their families at the Newnan Centre for their Annual Honors Banquet.

While enjoying the food and fellowship, Newnan Kiwanis recognized members for their leadership, commitment, and dedication to the Newnan Kiwanis Club.

C.R. Phillips was recognized as the Kiwanian of the Year.  According to Newnan Kiwanis Immediate Past President Keith Ross, “C.R. is being recognized for his relentless devotion to the Kiwanis Club of Newnan.  In 2022, C.R. attended and represented our club at all the significant Kiwanis events, including the international convention.  C.R. also worked closely with past club Secretary Bud Freeburg to ensure a successful transition, with C.R. becoming our new club Secretary for 2023.  We are blessed that C.R. is a member of our club, and we are proud to honor him with this award.”

Bud Freeburg received a Lifetime Membership Award.  This award was presented to Bud Freeburg to say thank you and recognize Bud for his 20 years of service and dedication to the Newnan Kiwanis Club as club Secretary.  Bud’s Kiwanis International dues will be paid for life.

Legion of Honor Awards were presented to those from Newnan Kiwanis for their years of membership in Kiwanis beginning at 25 years and recognized every 5 years thereafter.  This year’s awards were presented to:

Bobby Rooks: 55 years
Neal Shepard: 50 years
Brad Sears: 50 years
Al Kennedy: 45 years
Art Murphy: 45 years
Mitchell Hicks: 35 years
Scott Cummins: 35 years
Kerry Elliott: 35 years
Lamar Wright: 30 years
Luke Thompson: 30 years

Zeller Awards are presented to Newnan Kiwanis members for their outstanding leadership and participation.  For each member receiving this award, a donation of $1,250 was made to the Eliminate Project, a Kiwanis International worldwide project to eradicate maternal neonatal tetanus in mothers and babies.  This year’s awards were presented to:

Mark Musaus
Frank Barron
Beth Neely
Jeff Coggin
Danny Spivey
Mike Exner

Named after the first Kiwanis International President, the Hixson Awards are presented to Newnan Kiwanis members for their outstanding leadership and participation in our club.  For each member receiving this award, a donation of $1,000 was made to the Kiwanis International Children’s Fund.  This year’s awards were presented to:

Chip Barron
C.R. Phillips

Charlie Neely was awarded the Junior Kiwanian of the Year for his efforts and participation in support of the Kiwanis Coweta County Fair, the July 4th Parade, the Christmas Shopping Spree, and various other community activities.  Charlie is also the President of the Kiwanis sponsored Builders Club at Evans Middle School.

Keith Ross was presented the Past President Award recognizing his successful leadership of the Newnan Kiwanis Club over the past year.
