May’s Featured Musician: Ellis Lowery

Ellis Lowery is a full-time acoustic, singer songwriter, captivating audiences with soulful inspiring lyrics. His music is deeply influenced by traditional country icons like Vern Gosdin, Gene Watson, Merle Haggard and Waylon Jennings.

He is a retired combat veteran of 24 years. He’s been a part of the music scene since 2013 and describes himself as ‘playing catch-up’ ever since.  Enlisted as a Marine, he transitioned to law-enforcement before re-enlisting post 911 in the Georgia Army National Guard where he served as an Army infantry paratrooper for 18 years – with four combat tours.

Ellis supports local veteran events and organizations through his music. He’s a multi-alumni participant  with Camp Southern Ground’s Warrior Week.

It is Ellis’ words at the end of our conversation that show the true heart of someone who gets joy from watching others succeed.

“I remember, appreciate and will never forget how musicians in this community supported me when I first wanted to get out and play around town (with a Ukulele no less). Music has changed me as a person, especially after retiring out of the military, and all that support every single time I play just increases my passion for the music and motivation to be better. I love seeing musicians around this community succeeding with their music. So it just comes down to this, I want to always pass on that support to others and hopefully they feel the same happiness and joy that I feel from it. And then pass that on to all that listen to the music. Additionally,  doing what we can to help others through music. I would like to think (even on a small scale) that’s one way we make the world a better place.”
