NCHS announces Family-Friendly Summer Lecture Series
From Special Reports
For the summer season, the Newnan-Coweta Historical Society is proud to announce its family-friendly lecture series events!
For the months of June and July, NCHS is presenting a special version of its monthly lecture speaker series. The summer months will feature hands-on educational activities designed for family members of all ages. Activities are based on history lessons and ask participants to engage in fun activities that reinforce learning and engagement.
June’s lecture series on Tuesday, June 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. titled “The Greison Trail” is inspired by the popular 1971 computer game The Oregon Trail. Throughout this event, participants will learn about Newnan’s own Greison Trail which was once part of a Scotish-Native American trading route. Participants will take on the role of pioneers to learn the history of the Trail, purchase supplies, build lodging, and trade for goods
On July 20 from 6 to 8 p.m., NCHS is asking for help solving the mystery of the Collecion’s Caper! Someone stole an artifact from the museum, and the Museum needs help to catch the suspect! Attendees will become detectives, search through a packet of clues, and participate in several STEAM-based experiments to determine the culprit.
Both lecture series events are designed as a 20-30 minute experience. Participants may come throughout the evening to participate. Please join NCHS for the lecture series at The Historic Train Depot, 30 East Broad Street between 6 and 8 p.m.
