It’s hard to believe the calendar is already to the fourth weekend in February here in 2020. And this weekend’s calendar for Coweta County and nearby Peachtree City and LaGrange has several family-friendly events scheduled.

On Friday, the Newnan Carnegie hosts Exercise is Medicine and an afternoon Aging in Cities lecture, and downtown Senoia holds its monthly Alive After 5 shopping event.

On Saturday, an Eye-Spy Scavenger Hunt takes place at the Chattahoochee Bend State Park, a kids Cool Wheels hands-on event is set for ChildrenConnect Museum, the HELP/Spay Neuter Clinic hosts its Low-Cost Vaccine Clinic, there’s dog and cat adoptions in Peachtree City, the CAREing Paws Reading Program at the Peachtree City Library, Max Kauffman’s Open Art Studio tour, a Live Magic Show at The Depot in Hogansville, a Mother & Son Dinner at Leaf & Bean in downtown Newnan and the 13th Annual Oscar After-Party Gala fundraiser.

And on Sunday, Angela and Alex McRae take part in Hometown Novel Nights at Monarch House Assisted Living.

The Lafayette Theatre Company in LaGrange offers its stage production of “A Musical Comedy” and the Legacy Theatre in Tyrone continues its run of “Mamma Mia.”

Weather-wise, the rain finally comes to an end on Friday and rain chances do not return to the forecast until Sunday night (40%). Look for much cooler temperatures with highs of 46 degrees on Friday, 56 on Saturday and 58 on Sunday. Overnight lows will be 27 on Friday night and 32 on Saturday night.

Newnan Trolley Service
This free service is offered to take riders from downtown Newnan to Ashley Park. Runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Pickup locations at City Hall, the Governor Ellis Arnall Parking Lot on Madison Street, and Ashley Park at Dillard’s (West Entrance) and Regal Cinemas. The first pickup is at 1 p.m. at City Hall with the last full route starting at 7 p.m.

Aging in Cities with Dr. Anabel Pelham
The Newnan Carnegie Library will host Aging in Cities, led by Dr. Anabel Pelham on Friday. Dr. Pelham is the Founding Director of the Center for Age-Friendly Excellence (CAFE), a project of the Los Altos Community Foundation.  CAFE provides technical assistance to cities and communities to become World Health Organization (WHO) Age-Friendly. Dr. Pelham will describe her Centers’ experience assisting 18 cities through this exciting, scientific process and how it shapes a better future. This program is offered free of charge, however registration is requested. Registration is available online at newnancarnegie.eventbrite.com.

Senoia hosts Alive After Five
It’s Alive! After Five as the shops of Senoia will stay open until at least 8 p.m. to accommodate shoppers, and will offer specials in their shop.This event will be held every month on the 3rd Friday.

Strange LaGrange: Ghosts, Legends, & Spirited History – A Walking Tour
Join Troup County Historical Society Docent and Southern Spirit Guide, Lewis Powell, for a ghostly tour of downtown LaGrange to hear about the spirited history of Troup County and those who call it home. Tours will depart from the Legacy Museum on Main, rain or shine, and move through the downtown area. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, bring a water bottle, and an umbrella if the weather calls for rain!

CAREing Paws Program at Peachtree City Library
The CAREing Paws Program utilizes registered therapy dogs to improve literacy skills for children. If your child struggles with reading this may be for you. Children must have a basic knowledge of reading. Open to children in Grades K-5. The library offers six, 20-minute sessions. Parents must reserve a time slot in advance for their child.
