From Special Reports

Nora Anne Moeckel, 7 pounds, 1 ounce and 19.5 inches long, was the first baby of the year born at Piedmont Newnan Hospital at 1:06 a.m. on January 1, 2022. This is the third child for the proud parents of all girls, Joshua and Rachel Moeckel, who said they were hoping she would arrive prior to the holidays but Nora was stubborn and came on her own time.

“It is a fun story being the first born of the new year,” said mom, Rachel, “being the third baby, it’s her unique thing and gives her a special birthday and story to always tell.”

Her older sisters, Lillian (7) and Payton (4) are excited to have a baby sister to snuggle, cuddle and love on.

Heather Turner, M.D., Southern Crescent Women’s Health Obstetrics and Gynecology, delivered the newborn who is now home and doing well. Piedmont Newnan labor and delivery nurses Amy Williams, RN, and Katelyn Cannon, RN, assisted with the delivery.

“We were shocked at first by all the attention we received welcoming the first baby of 2022,” dad, Joshua, said. “She is our surprise baby and last child so it is neat to have this story to tell.”

The Moeckel’s were presented with a gift basket from the hospital and Women’s Service’s team.

Piedmont Newnan Hospital delivers over 1,700 babies annually. For more information on women’s services at Piedmont Newnan, visit piedmont.org.
