Taste of Senoia set for Sunday, April 28

From Special Reports

The annual Taste of Senoia, hosted by the Senoia Optimist Club, is scheduled for Sunday, April 28 from 1 – 4 p.m. in downtown Senoia.

This major event will feature delicious food “tastes” from most of the local restaurants, and it will also offer a large number of wonderful items that will be available through raffles and silent auctions. Tickets are already available for the premier raffle – a seven-night stay in Breckenridge, Colo., ($5,600 value).  Tickets are only $20 each at Jacob’s Table in Senoia and from members of the Senoia Optimist Club.

Weather should not be a factor. The early forecast from the National Weather Service in Peachtree City says to expect mostly sunny skies with a high near 80 degrees.

This fun event will once again be headquartered at the Senoia Masonic Lodge, located at 19 Main Street in downtown Senoia.  Tickets will be available there and at one or two satellite locations in town that day for food tastes and raffles.  All of the items associated with the silent auctions and raffles will be on display at the lodge.  Also, food tastes from restaurants that are local but not in the downtown area will be available at the Masonic Lodge.

New at this year’s Taste of Senoia will be live music performed by the Georgia Grass band.  This group will perform in the breezeway courtyard below the Masonic Lodge – just before FoxxHollow Antiques and Senoia Coffee & Café.  In addition, the Irish Dancers from Kelly Porter Productions LLC will be performing, weather permitting.

Also new at this year’s event is the ability of our patrons to take advantage of the new “entertainment zone” approved in the past year by the Senoia City Council.  Special cups will be sold at the Masonic Lodge that will allow customers to purchase beer or wine from local businesses and freely walk within the defined entertainment zone which will be depicted on maps that will be available the day of the event.

Some of the highlights of our Taste of Senoia are as follows:

  • most Senoia restaurants provide tastes
  • food taste tickets are only $1 each (most tastes are 1 to 4 tickets)
  • raffle & silent auction items provided from local vendors
  • raffle for seven-night stay in Breckenridge, Colo. ($5600 value)
  • entertainment will be performed by the Georgia Grass band
  • Irish dancers will be performing
  • pie eating contest
  • face painting
  • best Taste of Senoia award
  • special cups will be available for patrons to purchase beer or wine and freely walk within the new entertainment zone
  • live remote from the Bear 92.5 FM radio station
  • rain or shine
  • multiple other raffles and silent auctions from area vendors.

All of the funds raised will be used in supporting youth-oriented projects that the club undertakes each year.

Overflow parking will be available the day of the event (after their morning worship service ends at noon) at the Senoia United Methodist Church located at 229 Bridge Street.  It is at the intersection of Seavy and Bridge Streets.  Senoia Optimist members are planning to provide golf cart shuttles to and from the church and the downtown area.
