Teresa Foshee named January Artist of the Month

From Special Reports

The Newnan-Coweta Art Association has selected Teresa Foshee as its featured Artist of the Month for January.

Foshee’s art will be featured in the City Manager’s Office at Newnan City Hall until Jan. 31.

The city has collaborated with the Newnan-Coweta Art Association and some local art galleries on this project in honoring local artists each month. It gives local artists the opportunity to display their work in City Hall and a chance for the city to support the arts.

About Teresa Foshee

Teresa has always been an artist at heart, but life took her in other directions for a long time. She’s finally doing what she’s always wanted to do – explore, create and design! Teresa is a photographer, potter, and sculptor. She is currently exploring possibilities that lie beyond traditional representational images. As you will see by most of her artwork exhibited, she is delving into the creation of abstract designs.

Teresa grew up in Illinois, near St. Louis, Mo. She always loved to draw, and, as a child, Teresa remembers spending hours drawing animals from pictures in her parents’ encyclopedias. She took some art classes in high school and attended Harding University (Searcy, Ark.). In 2013, Teresa went back to college to finish her art degree that she started long ago. Teresa graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in Art & Design from LaGrange College in May 2016 (Double Concentration: Photography and Ceramics & Sculpture). She received The William and Elezida Hope Art History Award in 2015 and 2016 (Art Department, LaGrange College) and The Annie Moore Smith Award in 2016 (Art Department, LaGrange College).

Teresa has had her photographs and her bas-relief titles juried into several art and photography exhibits in Georgia and Alabama. She won “Best in Photography” at the Newnan-Coweta Art Association’s Annual Juried Art Exhibit, which is held each June at The Nixon Centre for Performing & Visual Arts, in 2019, 2018, and 2016 (Newnan). In September 2018, she won the Award of Merit in Photography/Digital Imaging, at the 52nd Region’s Bank Exhibit (Montgomery, Ala.); and, in October 2016, she won a 1st Place Merit Award at Photo XVII in Auburn, Ala. She has also had work juried into the “Simple Pleasures” exhibits at the McRitchie-Hollis Museum (Newnan), The Hathaway Contemporary Gallery (Atlanta), The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts (Montgomery), and the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center (Auburn). Teresa’s work has also been exhibited at the Lamar Dodd Art Center (LaGrange), Cochran Gallery (LaGrange), Auburn CityFest (Auburn), the City Hall Gallery (Montgomery), and in a solo show at West Georgia Technical College’s Newnan Campus (Finding Art in Everything). Her photographs are included in the permanent collection at the Lamar Dodd Art Center (LaGrange College) and at the Ida Callaway Hudson Lab Sciences Building (LaGrange College).

Teresa’s artwork is or has been on display at Due South Southern Cuisine (Peachtree City), Peachtree City Library, Newnan Theatre Company, Newnan Plaza Pharmacy, Burson’s ENT in Newnan, and Southern Arc Dance, also in Newnan.

Ms. Foshee is a member of the Newnan-Coweta Art Association.
