The Staging Life: Are your bed linens tired?

What do tired bed linens have to do with selling your home, you ask?

• The buyer isn’t buying my bed or furnishings!

• Can’t they see past what we have?

No. 1 –  You are correct! A buyer is not buying your bed or furnishings, however the condition or the style of your bed linens could be hurting the sale of your house.

No. 2 – 90% of buyers cannot go into a sellers home with their décor and furnishings and imagine living in that space with their families.

That’s why we need to take a look at all of our décor when selling our homes. The style or condition of the bed linens can say a lot about the current owner of the home.

Does it say “this person has bedding like my mother and I can’t live in a home that looks like my mother”?

Or does it say, “wow, these people don’t even care enough to spruce up the bedding while the house is on the market…I wonder what else they have neglected to care for”?

There is an easy solution to this seemingly silly situation… Bed in a Bag! It doesn’t take a huge budget to go to a discount store and update bed linens to provide a current style or update existing tired, over laundered bedding. You may even be able to work with part of the bedding that you have and only need to lighten up the coverlet or top comforter.

Take a look at these 2 photos. This is a beautifully decorated room but the bedding makes the room feel dark and dreary. By changing the top cover and pillow shams, this room is much brighter. This was about a $90 investment for a much brighter room.
