Tree Planted to Honor Drug Victims


For International Overdose Awareness Day, which happens on August 31 each year, a memorial tree was planted at the new Sprayberrry Road Park in remembrance of all Coweta County residents who lost their life to overdose. This memorial event was hosted by Drug Free Coweta, particularly their Lock Your Meds team.

GRASP members, Pat Rudd, Linda Schmidt & Christine Kendall spoke to the history of International Overdose Awareness Day and the importance of stigma reduction & recited poems conveying some of the many emotions involved with losing someone to overdose.

Jeff Breedlove from Georgia Council on Substance Abuse made closing remarks.

Sharon Rogers, Jean Felts &  Christine Kendall from Drug Free Coweta’s Lock Your Meds Team coordinated the event.
