Another busy weekend is in store as the Dog Days of Summer settle in here in Coweta County.

On Friday, the Newnan Carnegie Library celebrates National Book Lovers Day with a Book Swap. And you can check out the Newnan Shakes free presentation of Romeo and Juliet at the Greenville Street Park Amphitheater. There’s also plenty of live and local music at various venues in Newnan and Peachtree City.

On Saturday, Arnall Grocery Company celebrates 150 years with gifts, door prizes, free food and gift card giveaways as part of its birthday party. The Chattahoochee Bend State Park hosts 3 events – Hike and Paddle, Eye-Spy Scavenger Hunt and another Meet The Turtles. There’s the rescheduled Relay for Life Coweta from 4 p.m. to midnight, Quilts for Valor Fish Fry, a Cruise-In at Junction Lanes, and PTC Night Market. If you are a 1980s and/or MTV music junkie, the Fred Amphitheater hosts Electric Avenue and MJ Live.

And finally on Sunday, Chuck Girard will be in concert at Newnan Calvary Chapel. Plus, there’s Bingo at the Coweta Veterans Club and a presentation of HAIR at Serenbe Playhouse.

Weather-wise, it’s going to be hot all weekend. Friday’s heat index (when you figure in humidity) will be near 98 degrees and on Saturday, the heat index will be at 100 degrees. Rain chances are listed at 20 percent Friday, 40 percent Saturday and 20 percent on Sunday.

Newnan Trolley Service
This free service is offered to take riders from downtown Newnan to Ashley Park. Runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Pickup locations at City Hall, the Governor Ellis Arnall Parking Lot on Madison Street, and Ashley Park at Dillard’s (West Entrance) and Regal Cinemas. The first pickup is at 1 p.m. at City Hall with the last full route starting at 7 p.m.

Strange LaGrange: Ghosts, Legends, & Spirited History – A Walking Tour
Join Troup County Historical Society Docent and Southern Spirit Guide, Lewis Powell, for a ghostly tour of downtown LaGrange to hear about the spirited history of Troup County and those who call it home. Tours will depart from the Legacy Museum on Main, rain or shine, and move through the downtown area. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, bring a water bottle, and an umbrella if the weather calls for rain!

Arnall Grocery Company celebrates 150 Years
Talk about longevity, Arnall Grocery Company is celebrating 150 years of doing business here in Coweta County with Special Sales, Door Prizes, Free Food (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and and a chance to win one of five Gift Cards. Arnall Grocery Company was established in 1869. Today’s owner Shane Prophett and his family and staff continue to uphold the standards started by the founder, H. C. Hike and Paddle
Come out to Chattahoochee Bend State Park for a 5.5 mile hike on the river trail along with a moderate paddle down the Chattahoochee River. Kayaks are available to rent if needed, you MUST preregister for this event. $12 per person plus $30 kayak fee (if needed) meet at visitor center.

Eye-Spy Scavenger Hunt at The Bend
Bring your camera and take a look around Chattahoochee Bend State Park for the items on our scavenger hunt list Saturdays in May. Take a picture with each item on our list and bring your completed list and pictures to the office to claim your prize. Event is free to everyone. 2019 Relay For Life of Coweta County
This annual American Cancer Society event is set to be held at the Coweta County Fairgrounds after inclement weather postponed it back on May 11. This is a free, family-friendly celebration supporting our fight against cancer. There will be live entertainment, food, fun for the whole family and a kid’s zone with an obstacle course! Events include Opening Ceremony, Survivor Lap, Food, Scavenger Hunt, Music, Magic, Lip Sync Battle, Dance-Off,  Limbo Competition, Minute to Win it, Luminaria Ceremony and the Closing Ceremony. Folks can register online at RelayforLife.org/CowetaGa for fundraising and qualify for a free T-Shirt.
