There’s plenty of family events and activities again taking place this weekend in-and-around Coweta County.
Tonight, the Coweta Cattlemen’s 29th Annual Championship Rodeo begins a two-night run with Kids’ Night as tickets are 1/2 price ($5) for the youngsters.
On Saturday, Keris Kares Royal Run and Family Fun Day takes place in the morning in downtown Newnan. Later that day, a Community Open House hosted by Coweta Wellness Collective is set from 2 – 5 p.m.
And Sunday, the monthly Artists & Makers Pop-Up Market is at RPM in downtown Newnan. Also, each of the three local public high schools – East Coweta, Newnan and Northgate – conduct Baccalaureate Services at 2 and 3 p.m.
Plenty of local music is taking place: Dennis DeYoung (formerly of Styx) takes the stage at The Fred Amphitheater in Peachtree City with his Grand Illusion Tour show on Friday. And on Saturday, Kris Youmans hosts Newnan Unplugged at Vinylyte Records in downtown Newnan beginning at 7 p.m. Look below for the various venues and artists scheduled.
Weather-wise, it should be mostly dry and warm with temperatures each day in the upper 80s. Only a 30 percent rain chance today and 20 percent on Sunday night is in the National Weather Service forecast.

FRIDAY, MAY 17
AARP Smart Driver Course
Held at the Peachtree City Library. The AARP Smart Driver course teaches valuable defensive driving strategies and provides a refresher of the rules of the road. Drivers learn research-based tips to adapt their driving to compensate for physical and cognitive changes that may occur with aging. Plus, participants may qualify for a multi-year automobile insurance discount by completing the course (check with your auto insurance agent for details).
Cost: $15 for AARP members; All others: $20 Cash or check accepted on day of class.

Newnan Trolley Service
This free service is offered to take riders from downtown Newnan to Ashley Park. Runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Pickup locations at City Hall, the Governor Ellis Arnall Parking Lot on Madison Street, and Ashley Park at Dillard’s (West Entrance) and Regal Cinemas. The first pickup is at 1 p.m. at City Hall with the last full route starting at 7 p.m.

The Sound of Music
Performance at the Newnan Theatre Company. Set in Austria on the eve of the Anschluss in 1938, the musical tells the story of Maria, who takes a job as governess to a large family while she decides whether to become a nun. She falls in love with the children, and eventually their widowed father, Captain von Trapp. He is ordered to accept a commission in the German navy, but he opposes the Nazis. He and Maria decide on a plan to flee Austria with the children.

Keris Kares Royal Run
This Royal Run celebrates life and what would have been Keris’ 10th Birthday. There’s plenty of fun to go around including a 1-Mile Fun Run & Walk, a 5K Run/Walk, Butterfly Release and Family Fun Day. Proceeds from this event funds the Keris Kares Family Emergency Fund, where household bills are paid for families dealing with a pediatric cancer diagnosis. Keris Kares’ mission is to provide hope for families dealing with a childhood cancer diagnosis by providing spiritual, emotional, and financial support.

Scavenger Hunt at The Bend
Bring your camera and take a look around Chattahoochee Bend State Park for the items on our scavenger hunt list Saturdays in May.
