Weekly Report: Cases, deaths and hospitalizations fall in Coweta

THE SKINNY – Coweta County reported decreases in each of the major COVID-19 categories in the past week.
Below is the weekly summary of COVID-19 data thru Wednesday, October 12 from the Georgia Department of Public Health.
COWETA COUNTY
Coweta County confirmed only 28 new COVID-19 cases in the past week of Oct. 5-12, which was the lowest weekly total since mid-April. Coweta averaged only 4.1 cases per day and dropped by 26 cases from the previous week. In fact, Coweta posted 0 cases on Wednesday, Oct. 12, the first time that’s occurred since April 18.
Cases have now fallen in Coweta in six of the past seven weeks.
Coweta recorded 0 deaths (down 1) and only 4 hospitalizations (down 3) last week. It is the lowest number of hospitalizations in a week since registering 0 the week of July 17-23, 2021, some 15 months ago.
In October, Coweta has confirmed a total of 64 cases (5.3 per day) with 1 death and 9 hospitalizations.
Per the Georgia Department of Public Health, 192,236 vaccines have been applied to Coweta residents thru Oct. 12 with 1,096 last week. The Coweta vaccination rate remains unchanged from a week ago – 56 percent with one dose (Georgia is at 66 percent), 51 percent fully vaccinated (Georgia is at 58 percent), 45 percent have been fully vaccinated and had a booster shot (Georgia 45 percent, up 1 percent), and 23 percent have had an additional dose (Georgia 26 percent, up 1 percent).
The overall positive test rate in Coweta was 13.9 percent on Oct. 12, with the two-week infection rate dropping to 6.4 percent (the lowest two-week rate since April 27). Last week, those test rates were at 13.9 and 8.4 respectively.
Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 25,872 cases, 446 deaths (with an additional 67 probable deaths) and 1,932 hospitalizations thru Oct. 12 from when the pandemic began some 31-plus months ago. Coweta ranks 20th in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases, 14th in deaths due to COVID and 16th in COVID-related hospitalizations.
GEORGIA
Statewide, Georgia experienced declines in four of five major COVID-19 categories for the week of Oct. 6-12.
Georgia confirmed 2,574 cases for an average of 367.7 per day last week – falling by 846 cases from the previous week of Sept. 29-Oct. 5. It was the 8th consecutive week that cases fell in the state.
Other totals that dropped last week included 63 deaths (down 22), 30 ICU admits (down 5) and the number of COVID patients hospitalized on Oct. 12 was 557 (down 84). The COVID patients hospitalized were only 3.4 percent of all people hospitalized in Georgia and is the lowest number since late May.
The only category to increase was hospitalizations with 399, rising by seven.
The overall positive test rate in Georgia is 12.7 percent on Oct. 12, with the two-week infection rate falling from 6.0 percent last week to 5.7 now.
Overall, Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 2,243,886 cases, 33,587 deaths, 127,414 hospitalizations and 16,980 ICU admits thru Oct. 12 from when the pandemic began.
