Weekly Report: Cases continue to fall in Coweta County

THE SKINNY – Coweta County posted just 203 new COVID-19 cases last week, the fewest since early June.

Below is the weekly summary of COVID-19 data thru Wednesday, September 7 from the Georgia Department of Public Health.

COWETA COUNTY

Coweta County saw decreases in two of three COVID-19 related categories in the past reporting week of Sept. 1-7. 

Coweta confirmed 203 new COVID-19 cases last week, the fewest since recording 200 the week of June 2-8. It was a drop of 37 cases from the previous week (Aug. 25-31). The county averaged 29.0 cases per day with a high of 89 on Wednesday, Sept. 7.

In addition, Coweta registered 1 death (up 1) and had 24 hospitalizations (down 1).

Per the Georgia Department of Public Health, 187,586 Coweta residents have had vaccines applied thru Sept. 7 with 122 last week.  The Coweta vaccination rate is now – 56 percent with one dose (Georgia is at 65 percent), 51 percent fully vaccinated (Georgia is at 57 percent) and 45 percent have been fully vaccinated and had a booster shot (Georgia 44 percent). 

The overall positive test rate in Coweta was 14.0 percent on Sept. 7, with the two-week infection rate dropping to 21.5 percent (the lowest two-week rate since June 15). Last week, those test rates were at 13.9 and 25.2 respectively.

Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 25,536 cases, 442 deaths (with an additional 65 probable deaths) and 1,885 hospitalizations thru Sept. 7 from when the pandemic began some 30-plus months ago. Coweta ranks 20th in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases, 14th in deaths due to COVID and 16th in COVID-related hospitalizations.

GEORGIA

Statewide, Georgia saw declines in four of five major COVID-19 categories for the week of Sept. 1-7.

Georgia confirmed 8,967 cases for an average of 1,281 per day last week – falling by 4,627 cases from the previous week of Aug. 25-31.

Other totals last week included 90 deaths (down 40) and 701 hospitalizations (down 125). The only COVID-19 category that saw an increase was ICU admits with 53 (up 12).

The number of COVID patients hospitalized on Sept. 7 was 1,118 or 6.9 percent of all people hospitalized in Georgia. It was a decrease of 163 patients from a week earlier.

The overall positive test rate in Georgia is 12.7 percent on Sept. 7, with the two-week infection rate falling to 15.3 percent.

Overall, Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 2,222,490 cases, 33,088 deaths, 124,973 hospitalizations and 16,790 ICU admits thru Sept. 7 from when the pandemic began.
