March Report: Coweta County sees low COVID-related numbers

COWETA COUNTY
Coweta County experienced some milestone lows in COVID-19 numbers in the month of March.
Coweta confirmed 139 new COVID-19 cases in March for an average of 4.5 per day. It was the third-lowest monthly total for Coweta since the pandemic began. The other two months with lower totals included 41 cases in March 2020 and 107 in March 2022.
The county also had 0 deaths in March, which is the first time no COVID-related deaths have occurred in a month.
Coweta had just 20 hospitalizations in March, which tied for the 5th-lowest monthly total since the pandemic began.
For the reporting week of March 30-April 5, Coweta confirmed 30 new cases (4.3 per day) which was a decrease of five from the previous week. Coweta posted 0 deaths, the sixth-consecutive week without a death which is the longest stretch of weeks since the start. The county had 7 hospitalizations, which was an increase of 4 from a week earlier.
Per the Georgia Department of Public Health, 202,256 vaccines have been applied to Coweta residents thru April 5 with 101 last week. The Coweta and Georgia vaccination rates follow – Coweta is at 56 percent with one dose (Georgia is at 67 percent), 52 percent fully vaccinated (Georgia is at 59 percent), 47 percent have been fully vaccinated and had a booster shot (Georgia 47 percent), and 24 percent have had an additional dose (Georgia 27 percent).
The overall positive test rate in Coweta is 13.7 percent this week, with the two-week infection rate rising to 9.7 percent (from 9.6 last week).
Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 28,028 cases, 459 deaths (with an additional 68 probable deaths) and 2,186 hospitalizations through April 5 from when the pandemic began some three years ago. Coweta ranks 19th in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases, 15th in deaths due to COVID and 16th in COVID-related hospitalizations.

GEORGIA
Georgia had declines in two of the four major COVID-19 categories for the week of March 30-April 5, 2023.
New cases and hospitalizations were the two categories Georgia experienced decreases in numbers.
The state confirmed 1,527 cases for an average of 218.1 per day last week, dropping by 430 cases from the previous week. Also, Georgia posted 183 hospitalizations, down 30 from a week earlier.
Deaths rose by 17 over the past week with a total of 46. ICU Admits remained unchanged with 26, the same as a week ago.
The overall positive test rate in Georgia this week is 12.4 percent, with the two-week infection rate rising slightly to 6.3 percent (6.1 percent last week).
Overall, Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 2,356,655 cases, 35,264 deaths, 139,469 hospitalizations and 17,798 ICU admits through April 5 from when the pandemic began in March 2020.
