Coweta County posts over 300 new COVID-19 cases for 2nd consecutive week

THE SKINNY – For the second straight week, Coweta County recorded over 300 new COVID-19 cases for the week of July 14-20.
Below is the weekly summary of COVID-19 data thru Wednesday, July 20 from the Georgia Department of Public Health.
COWETA COUNTY
Coweta County confirmed 334 new COVID-19 cases in the past week (July 14-20) for an average of 47.7per day. It’s an increase of 7 cases from the previous week (327, July 7-13) and the most for a seven-day period in 24 weeks (398 from Jan. 29 to Feb. 4).
The daily high number of cases came on Wednesday, July 20 with 56. In fact, Coweta posted 50 cases-or-more three days in the past week – Friday, July. 15 (50), Tuesday, July 19 (55) and July 20 (56). And Coweta has had 10-or-more cases in a day for 50 consecutive days, dating from May 31.
Coweta did confirm 1 death (same as the previous week) and had 25 hospitalizations (up 2).
For the month of July, Coweta has recorded 919 cases (45.9 per day), 5 deaths, 80 hospitalizations. Coweta is on pace for July’s case totals to be its 6th-highest in a month since the pandemic started in March 2020.
Per the Georgia Department of Public Health, Coweta County has reported 184,914 vaccines applied thru July 20 with 811 last week. The Coweta vaccination rate is 55 percent for people with one dose (Georgia is at 65 percent) and 51 percent fully vaccinated (Georgia is at 57 percent) as of July 20. In addition, 44 percent of Coweta residents have been fully vaccinated and had a booster shot (Georgia 43 percent).
The overall positive test rate in Coweta was 13.3 percent on July 20, with the two-week infection rate rising to 29.2 percent. Last week, those test rates were at 13.2 and 27.5 respectively.
Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 23,542 cases, 436 deaths (with an additional 64 probable deaths) and 1,681 hospitalizations thru July 20 from when the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 20th in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases, 14th in deaths due to COVID and 16th in COVID-related hospitalizations.
GEORGIA
Statewide, Georgia posted increases in two COVID-19 categories for the week of July 14-20 and declines in two areas.
Georgia confirmed 19,745 cases for an average of 2,820.7 per day for last week – rising by 986 cases from the previous week of July 7-13.
Other totals from July 14-20 included 101 deaths (up 24 from the previous week), 774 hospitalizations (down 19) and 48 ICU admits (down 35).
The number of COVID patients hospitalized on July 20 was 1,394 or 8.6 percent of all people hospitalized in Georgia. It was an increase of 209 from the previous week and the 13th consecutive week this number has risen.
The overall positive test rate in Georgia was 12.4 percent on July 20, with the two-week infection rate standing at 24.2 percent.
Overall, Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 2,104,785 cases, 32,304 deaths, 118,688 hospitalizations and 16,441 ICU admits thru July 20 from when the pandemic began.
