Applications being accepted for vacant School Board seat

Those interested in serving in the Coweta County Board of Education’s vacant District 5 seat can now formally submit their names for consideration.
Packets of information for those interested in consideration for the seat are available at the Board of Education office at 237 Jackson Street in Newnan. Applications for the open seat must be returned to the Board of Education Office by 12 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4.
The packet includes information about the appointment process, and asks for information from prospective appointees.
The District 5 seat is being vacated by member Winston Dowdell, who is retiring from the seat in December, 2019. The Board of Education plans to appoint a replacement for the district seat for the remainder of the unexpired term, which extends through December 2020.
The Board of Education’s District 5 seat covers portions of Newnan and central Coweta County. A map of Coweta Board of Education Districts, provided by Coweta County, can be found linked on the school system’s website at www.cowetaschools.net. More information about the Board of Education 5th electoral district and eligibility requirements can be obtained by contacting the Coweta County Board of Elections office.
The Board of Education will review all names submitted for consideration through the formal process. Submission of a completed packet must be received at the 237 Jackson Street Board office by 12 p.m., on Wednesday, December 4 for consideration.
