From City of Newnan Press Release

The city of Newnan has announced that the Arbor Day Foundation has named Newnan a 2023 Tree City USA.

This important designation was met by the City adhering to the program’s four requirements: maintaining a tree board or department, having a tree care ordinance, dedicating an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita, and hosting an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

“We are proud that, once again, Newnan has been designated as a Tree City USA,” said Newnan Mayor Keith Brady.  “The City Arborist, Mike Furbush does a tremendous job and we are grateful for his leadership. Our City Tree Commission was established in 1990 and we appreciate their hard work as they invest in the future of our City. One way that we try to engage the community is through our longstanding tradition of planting trees with the City kindergarten classes each year. I always enjoy the opportunity to share how trees benefit our community and watch each class plant a tree.”

The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation, in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters. To learn more about the Arbor Day Foundation, visit: https://www.arborday.org/.
