Question: What opportunities are available for my child at the Kiwanis Coweta County Fair to be held September 16-26, 2021?

Agent: Planning is already underway for the 2021 Kiwanis Coweta County Fair which will take place September 16-26, 2021 at the Coweta County Fairgrounds located at 275 Pine Road in Newnan.

Coweta County 4-H plays a role in many aspects of the fair. There are many fun and exciting ways you and your children can get involved.

CONTESTS

Coweta County 4-H facilitates several contests at the fair. Each of the contests below will award ribbons and cash prizes to the winners in divisions based on age.
• Cake Decorating-Open to youth in K-12th grade
• Gingerbread House Decorating-Open to youth in PK-7th grade
• Pumpkin Decorating-Open to youth PK-12th grade
• Family Scarecrow Contest-up to 4 family members may participate (one participant must be under the age of 18)

ANIMALS
Exhibiting animals at the fair has been a tradition for years! At the Coweta County Fair, youth can exhibit several different animals including poultry and rabbits. They also can show their showmanship skills with shows for poultry, rabbit, and goats.

A favorite contest each year is the rabbit agility contest when rabbits with go through an obstacle course! The Ag. Discovery Club from Coweta 4-H will also have livestock on display. Families can walk through the Coweta County Fairgrounds Agricultural Building to view the livestock and learn more about each species from Coweta County 4-H’ers and volunteers. Spectators are always welcome at the many different shows throughout the week.

EXHIBITS
If you children are bored this summer, let them create exhibits for the fair. The categories for entries include agriculture, photography, art, handicrafts, quilting, and preserved foods. The art category has categories for a variety of different mediums. Handicrafts can include sewing, crocheting, soap making, wood working, and knitting. Youth entries are judged in categories of PK-2nd grade, 3rd-6th grade, and 7th-12th grade. All entries receive a ribbon. Cash prizes are awarded to entries that earn a rosette. Youth can submit one entry per class.

For more information on exhibits, consult the 2021 Fair Book when released or you can e-mail Coweta County 4-H Program Assistant, Savannah Masters at [email protected].

We encourage the youth of Coweta County to get involved with these activities at the Kiwanis Coweta County Fair in September! For more specific entry requirements, entry forms, schedules, and other information for each of these exciting events, please see the Kiwanis Coweta County Fair Website at https://www.cowetacountyfair.net/.
