Food Pantries helping Families in need in Coweta County

Challenging economic times and rising food prices are making it difficult for some families and individuals to put food on the table. To assist with local food insecurity, food pantries, churches and other charitable organizations in Coweta County are providing free food to local residents. Here are some places to receive assistance:
The Salvation Army Newnan
The Salvation Army Newnan has a food pantry on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to noon for Coweta County residents. To receive assistance, individuals must present a photo ID and complete required paperwork.
The nonprofit organization offers a variety of other services, including clothing, utility and rental/mortgage assistance.

Bridging the Gap
Bridging the Gap offers weekly food distribution on Wednesdays at 4 p.m. and Saturdays at 8 a.m. Visitors should bring photo ID to receive the food donation.
The faith-based organization feeds more than 300 local families and also supplies shower and laundry facilities, case management and referral services, a clothing closet and household goods. The shower and laundry facilities and clothing closet are available by appointment.
Bridging the Gap also provides home delivery to individuals and families who are shut-in or lack transportation to receive services. Home delivery services include food, clothing and household items.

One Roof Ecumenical Alliance Outreach
One Roof Ecumenical Alliance Outreach is a nonprofit organization serving Coweta County that offers food, clothing, shelter and financial assistance. It operates the Coweta County Food Pantry, which is open every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1 to 4 p.m.
Clients can come to the Coweta County Food Pantry every month to pick up a box filled with canned goods, breads, staples, fresh fruits and vegetables (as donated) and meat. The pantry also offers kid bags with peanut butter, jelly, cereal and snacks.
The organization also has a thrift store bag sale on the first and third Wednesday of every month. Visitors can fill up one bag of clothing for $15. All proceeds go to support the mission. The thrift store is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Alpha Omega Mission Center (AO House)
The Alpha Omega Mission Center (AO House) is a ministry of First Baptist Church in Newnan and the Western Baptist Association that provides food, clothing and assistance. The center is open Monday through Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. Photo ID is required.

Yeager Road Community Resource Center
The Yeager Road Community Resource Center, a ministry of Newnan First Seventh-Day Adventist Church, has a Mobile Food Pantry. On the first Saturday of the month from 3 to 5 p.m., those in need can get free food. The donations are available first come, first served. The upcoming dates for the Mobile Food Pantry are Aug. 7, Sept. 4, Oct. 2, Nov. 6 and Dec. 4.

Backpack Buddies of Georgia
Backpack Buddies of Georgia is a nonprofit organization created to supply economically disadvantaged children in the Coweta County School System with food for the weekend. The nonprofit also provides holiday break bags to assist families during long school holidays.
Each weekend bag includes two breakfast items, two lunch items, two fruit cups and a variety of snacks.
This fall, Backpack Buddies will partner with the Coweta County School System to deliver weekend bags to students in Coweta County. The nonprofit organization will deliver weekend bags to all Coweta County schools with the help of volunteers.

Palmetto Community Food Pantry
Palmetto Baptist Church has a food pantry, the Palmetto Community Food Pantry, that is open each Monday (including holidays) from 3 to 6 p.m. to citizens of Palmetto. Families in crisis can come once a month to receive a bag of food and a word of encouragement. Food donations are also available by appointment.

Grace Evangelical Church
Grace Evangelical Church hosts a Mobile Food Pantry each month in support of the Real Life Center and in collaboration with the Atlanta Community Food Bank. The next Mobile Food Pantry is Thursday, Aug. 19 at 10 a.m.
The Mobile Food Pantry is open to the public on a first come, first served basis, and there are no eligibility requirements. Food items may include vegetables, canned goods and baked goods.
The monthly food pantry is held in addition to the regular Food Pantry at the Real Life Center, a nonprofit organization designed to help give families financial, emotional and spiritual support.
