Backyard Association to host virtual ‘The Birds in Your Back Yard’

From Special Reports
The Coweta Master Gardener Extension Volunteers are going virtual with their Nov. 10 meeting showcasing “The Birds in Your Backyard,” a presentation by noted Georgia birder Dr. Robert Myers, professor emeritus, at the University of West Georgia.
The Backyard Association is an educational program sponsored by the Master Gardener Extension Volunteers at the UGA Extension – Coweta County. To join the online program, type in https://bit.ly/NovBYA2020. The Meeting ID is 924 1099 5872, and the passcode is 886508.
Dr. Myers, who taught geography for 26 years at the University of West Georgia, has traveled to all 50 states plus 14 countries in search of rare, exotic and birds. His talk will focus on the wonderful birds that can be found in our own backyards.
After becoming a birder in 1998, Dr. Myers has amassed a life list of 881 species, both domestic and international. He has observed and identified at least one bird species in every county in Georgia (159) and Florida (67).
He is an active participant in eBIRD hosted by Cornel University, one of the world’s largest biodiversity-related science projects, with more than 100 million bird sightings contributed annually by eBirders around the world.
According to Dr. Myers, he is not an ornithologist nor a botanist, “just an amateur birder who loves observing birds and photographing them.”
The Backyard Association is an educational program sponsored by the Coweta County Master Gardener Extension Volunteers (MGEVs). The presentations are free to the public and are held on the second Tuesday of each month January – November at 7 p.m.
